TransWA and Greyhound operateregular coach services.Travelling TipsTake Regular BreaksThe <strong>Coral</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> has long stretchesof road, so be sure to stop for regularbreaks. Maximum speed limit is 110kilometres per hour on the open road and50 kilometres per hour in built up areas.Private PropertySome tracks and roads are on privateproperty. These should not be usedwithout the owner’s permission. Pleaseleave gates as you found them.Page 6 | australiascoralcoast.comBe PreparedFood and fuel are generally availableevery 100 – 300 kilometres along themain highway, so be sure to plan ahead.Please note that LPG Autogas is notavailable in all regional areas. Some areasof <strong>Australia</strong>’s <strong>Coral</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> are remote, soif you plan to explore off road, make sureyou are well provisioned. If your vehiclebreaks down or becomes bogged, staywith the vehicle. A car is easier to spot inthe event of a search.Road ConditionsHeavy rainfall can make some roadsand tracks impassable, so check roadconditions before departure with localShire offi ces or Main Roads WA. Someroads are unsealed, so beware of loosegravel and dust obscuring your vision.Driving RestrictionsPlease note it is illegal to drive in <strong>Australia</strong>with a blood alcohol reading over0.05. A zero tolerance policy applies toprobationary and learner drivers. It is alsoillegal for drivers to use a hand held phonewhile driving. Hands-free devices may beused with caution.Animals on the RoadBe wary of animals on or near the road.Kangaroos are prevalent, especially inthe early morning and evening. Emus areunpredictable and often travel in groups.Cattle occasionally venture on to roads atnight and can be hard to see.Other Road UsersBe mindful of other road users,particularly road trains and large truckswith up to four trailers attached. Alwaysleave approximately 200 metres betweenvehicles in a convoy to allow road trainsto pass, and only overtake a road train ifthe road is clear and visible for up to onekilometre ahead.Caring for the Environment• Only light fi res when permitted andin designated areas. Information canbe obtained from local visitor centresand Department of Environment andConservation (DEC) offi ces.• Always have pets on a lead and pleasenote they cannot be taken into any WAnational parks or nature reserves.• Dispose of rubbish in bins.• Do not take natural artefacts with youas souvenirs.• Be cautious when bushwalking orhiking. Stay on designated pathsand heed warning signs. Always letsomeone know of your plans.• Water safety. Always be aware ofcurrents, weather conditions and tidalmovements before entering the water.Never touch coral or marine life - youmay damage it or it may damage you.• Camping is permitted at designatedsites, so be sure to check with localvisitor centres before pitching your tent.
