Governance roles and responsibilitiesThe Chief Officers’ Public Safety GroupThe Chief Officers’ Public Safety Group (COPS) is comprised of the highestlevel Officers (CEO NHS <strong>Fife</strong>, CEO <strong>Fife</strong> Council, and CC <strong>Fife</strong> Constabulary,Authority Reporter) across all the agencies who are involved in <strong>Adult</strong><strong>Protection</strong> Services. This group provides leadership, direction andaccountability and ensures collective responsibility and collaborative workingat all levels to ensure improved outcomes for adults at risk<strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> CommitteeThe <strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Committee is the primary strategic planning mechanismfor inter-agency adult protection work in <strong>Fife</strong>. To operate effectively itcollaborates with other office holders and public bodies on the exercise offunctions which relate to the safeguarding of adults at risk in <strong>Fife</strong>. <strong>Adult</strong><strong>Protection</strong> Committees are statutory bodies which must be established withineach council area.Key agencies in <strong>Fife</strong> commit to representation and active participation atsufficiently senior level to ensure that the <strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Committee caneffectively discharge its obligations in respect of policy and practice in adultprotection matters. <strong>Fife</strong>’s <strong>Adult</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Committee reports on its work to theCOPS Group which meets on a quarterly basis.8
