Cegielski - Poznan S.A’s new dieselTCS-PTG18 power turbine systems havebeen designed to boost the efficiency oftwo environmentally- friendly, dieselpower plants. These will be constructedby Land & Marine for the renewableenergy company Blue-NG, based inLondon.At the core of each plant will be an A H.Cegielski-built MAN B&W 7K60MC-S engineproducing 13.9 MW. Blue-NG regards itselfas being committed to being ‘best-inclass’at building the most efficient powerplants. It plans to use five generatorsinstalled in five cycles to accumulate atotal of 18.3 MW (electrical power) ateach plant.The new high-efficiency TCAturbochargers have been specially builtto divert more exhaust gas to powerturbine-based, energy-recovery systems.The power turbine is inserted into theexhaust-gas system parallel to theturbocharger. Control valves and fastactingemergency valves for emergencyshutdown are installed in the exhaustsystem to ensure reliable, safe operation.MAN Diesel sees good potential forfurther applications of TCS-PTG wasteheatrecovery systems in diesel powerplants and marine applications."The dramatic increase in fuel prices in2008 has revived interests in systems thatmaximise overall system efficiency," Dr.Antonio Fernandez of MAN DieselTurbocharger, tells WIP.“The ongoing CO2-debate, and the factthat more and more companies areconsidering environmental issues in theirnew build projects, will make the wasteheatrecovery system an interestingoption,” he comments.“MAN Diesel also offers thermoefficiencysystems including steamturbines, power turbines and generatorsfrom one source.
