GEN-SETSPower revolution: the new gasgen-sets for BangladeshJust eight weeks ago Mannheim-based MWM shipped 15 new gas gen-sets - each withan output of 4 MWel - to Bangladesh. They are being installed in a power plantbelonging to the Precision Energy Ltd consortium, reports WIP.With its 15 large gas gen-sets, thenatural gas-powered plant inAshugong, Bangladesh, will begenerating a total of 60 MWel, all ofwhich will be fed into the public gridwithin three months.Bangladesh, with its population of about150 million, is one of the most denselypopulated countries in the world. Its dailydemand for electricity has grown to 5,200MW, compared to no more than 4,000 MWactually produced.Investments worth $US15 billion areneeded by 2020 in order to prevent thepower industry from becoming animpediment to the country's development, say industry analysts."The project also contributes to thepromotion of the required investments forthe maintenance and expansion of powerproduction in Bangladesh", explains Dr.Ruprecht Lattermann, President and CEOof MWM Asia Pacific. The 15 gas gen-sets which arrived inBangladesh covered a total distance ofabout 16,000 km (10,000 miles).
