PGCILis India's centralgovernment-owned<strong>power</strong> transmissionutility and amongthe largest in theworld. Thetransformers will beinstalled at PowerGrid's Satnasubstation in thecentral Indian stateof Madhya Pradesh.Vasilikos Power Station, phase IV, unit 5contract awarded to NEM BVNEM BV HAS secured a new orderfor Vasilikos Power Station, phaseIV, unit 5. Modular HRSG Systemshas by now already started theengineering for this project.The new order is a continuation ofthe successful partnership betweenIUB and J&P AVAX. Earlier, IUB suppliedtwo HRSGs for unit 4 (photoattached), which have recentlybeen commissioned.The principal, J&P AVAX, is a GreekEPC contractor. The end customer isElectrical Authority of Cyprus, themost important electricity supplierof the south part of Cyprus. NEMwill supply two two pressure levelHRSGs, each behind a GE frame6FA. The gas turbines run on diesel,but in the future it is expected thatgas will be available. Two steamturbines convert the steam producedinto electricity. The HRSGswill work with highly variable loads, in a so-called'start-stop' operation. The order includes two bypasssystems to be supplied by NEM Power-Systems.NEM BVM manufactures equipment for <strong>power</strong> generationindustry. The company’s products include heatrecovery steam generators, fired boilers, processboilers, industrial and utility boilers,components/stacks and dampers, feed watersystems, DCS systems, and components for <strong>power</strong>plants. It also provides boiler manufacturingservices. The company offers its products for variousfossil fuel-based <strong>power</strong> generation technologiescovering oil and natural gas, coal, waste, and heatand gas coming from industrial processes. NEM bvwas founded in 1929 and is headquartered inLeiden, the Netherlands.Sweco takes on €1.2mAfrican <strong>power</strong> contractSweco’ engineers are studying thepotential and present proposalsfor the interconnection of the<strong>power</strong> grids between Uganda andTanzania in order to reduce thecurrent shortage of <strong>power</strong> in theregion. The contract is worthapproximately €1.2m.The assignment is being carriedout on behalf of UgandaElectricity Transmission withfinancing from the World Bank.The company is already involvedin similar assignments in countrieslike Botswana, Ethiopia,Mozambique, Angola andTanzania. Sweco has said that, byinterconnecting the <strong>power</strong> gridsaround Lake Victoria, it is possibleto reduce the shortage and ensurea stable electricity supply in theregion.Eva Nygren, president of SwecoSweden, said: "Over the past 50years Swecohas worked inmany Africancountries toimprove accessto electricityin both urbanand ruralareas."Sweco is aconsultinggroup withexpertise inengineering, environmentaltechnology and architecture.Sweco is also behind the developmentof a new city in China,Caofeidian, located in theTangshan region of Eastern China[see bottom left].Based around 200km south-east ofBeijing the new eco-city willhouse a million inhabitants and isbeing built with the aim ofbecoming one of China’s mostenvironmentally-friendly cities.The city plan of the first section,a 30 sq.km area, has beendeveloped by a team of Sweco’splanners, architects, engineersand technology consultants.Here, Sweco is aiming to createone of the most environmentallyfriendly cities in the world.
