Technical Strengthening
Chandigarh is providing health care at tertiary level through PGIMER and
GMCH-32 and in order to maintain the referral status of these hospitals and to reduce
the load thereof the secondary and primary level of health care is to be strengthened for
which the Community Health Centre Sector-22 and Community Health Centre
Manimajra are being upgraded as per the IPHS and the existing Poly Clinic Sector 45 is
being upgraded to the level of Community Health Centre in the year 2008-09. The sub
centres are proposed for urban slums/ colonies in order to reduce the distance of health
facility for providing the basic health services as to RCH/ Immunization to further
improve the RCH indicators keeping in view the migratory population.
Maternal Health
Chandigarh Administration has declared all institutional deliveries free for all
beneficiaries residing in urban slums/ colonies/ villages by simplifying the criteria for
declaring the patient belonging to Below Poverty Line category for the purpose of health
care. Further the Administration has proposed to engage the services of doctors/
paramedical staff to provide RCH/ Immunization facility at anganwaris level with special
reference to urban slums/ colonies in order to improve the status of pregnant women/
children. Further the proposal is being examined by the Administration for strengthening
of health related services for improving the monitorable indicators
Sex Ratio
To improve sex ratio, reduction of female foeticide by strict implementation of
PNDT act and regular BCC campaign along with IEC activities to bring the behaviour
change and change in mind set of the public.
RTI/STI
For this, key strategy is to improve access for diagnosis and management of
RTIs and STIs in public and private sector. Primary and Secondary RTI/STIs, services
are being made available at all second tier institution and on all days. In UHCs of slums
and rural dispensaries this facility shall also be provided at least once a week. Tertiary
care will be provided in convergence with SACS U.T., Chandigarh to provide such
services through their targeted intervention and IEC projects.
Child Health
Both Community Health Centres i.e Sector-22 and Manimajra are providing
maternal and child health services for 24 x 7, which will be further strengthened by
engaging the services of Anesthetists, Pediatricians and Gynecologists on contract
basis in order to ensure round the clock coverage for emergencies/ indoor patients. This
will boost the institutional deliveries and thus the child health.
