Listening to African Voices - FPZ

• How do immigrant families in Hamburg proceed in thepractice of FGM/C? Who executes the practice andwhere is it carried out?• Where and under what circumstances do women whohave undergone FGM/C seek medical care? What precautionsdo they take during pregnancy? Do they participatein preventive care programs?• What suggestions are given by immigrant women, menand youth for the elimination of the practice of FGM/Cwithin practicing groups in Hamburg? How and in whatcontext can the topic be addressed and by whom?The choice of adequate information channels, platforms andmedia is crucial for the implementation of effective preventionand awareness-raising projects. In order to identifythe most relevant media and other information sources ofAfrican immigrant communities, we explored the followingquestions:• Where and through what information channels do Africanimmigrants inform themselves? What types of media(journals, web pages, newspapers, radio and televisionchannels) do they use?• What types of media and locations could be appropriatedissemination channels for activities directed againstFGM/C?Listening to African Voices 11
