ody to play host to visiting poets. Mr. <strong>Bhutto</strong> gladly invited me <strong>and</strong> Faiz Sahebto stay with him. We had the opportunity to discuss various issues with him atlength. I agreed with his views on Taskent, although, I was then <strong>and</strong> remain nowfor peace with India. Faiz Saheb was talking to him. Mr. <strong>Bhutto</strong> asked for myviews. I said I would rather be a listener when two statesmen were discussingimportant issues. I never wanted to support Ayub. All of us were fed up withAyub. <strong>Bhutto</strong> was our hope.Yesterday we supported <strong>Bhutto</strong>. Today we are with his daughter. She, too, is ourhope. We in this country are fortunate, that we have again got a leader who is fulltimer, who is persistent <strong>and</strong> courageous – in spite of all personal tragedies, of theassassinations of her father <strong>and</strong> her brother, the imprisonment of her husb<strong>and</strong>,she remains cheerful. I salute her on her courage, on her persistence.I will now quote from my poem, which Mr. <strong>Bhutto</strong> used to like a lot.I recited this poem in a public meeting. As a result I was imprisoned. Mr. <strong>Bhutto</strong>arranged lawyers for me, <strong>and</strong> insisted on them that I should be helped. I shouldbe bailed out.I remember when they arrested Mr. <strong>Bhutto</strong>. Begum Nusrat <strong>Bhutto</strong> asked me,“Jalib Bhai, will they ever set him free again?” I replied, “we shall break thechains, we shall bring clown the prison walls. We shall bring him back.”I am proud that Begum <strong>Bhutto</strong> addressed me as her brother. I am a Fakir anordinary Fakir.Mr. <strong>Bhutto</strong>’s daughter is as dear to me as my own. I am a father of five daughters.I see a lot of promise in Mohtarma Benazir <strong>Bhutto</strong>.
