On return Mohtarmacalled for me and told me that Bhutto Sahab had asked her “to take special care”of me.This as the last contact I had with Shaheed Quaid. A DESIGNER’S VIEWMr. Curt Hill Fram.My first encounter with the great man, as I recall was in the year 1954-55. Aninsurance friend together with me went to his residence near the Clifton Bridgeand met the family. Having just arrived from Bombay, India, Sir Shah NawazBhutto graciously invited us and introduced us to Zulfikar his son. Zulfikar toldme that he had just started law practice in an office (I think Campbell Streetopposite Sindh Madressa) shared by Mr. Dorab Patel (Ex-Justice). He asked myhelp to get him desk chairs etc.Later when I met him he told me that his father had acquired a plot on 70 Clifton.He had commissioned a Swiss architect Mr. Kotzian to design the house. In themeantime he got married to Nusrat whose father was an Iranian businessman.She had two sisters, one living in Bombay and other a doctor in Iran.I had lot of meetings, therefore with Bhutto family in furnishing the house at 70-Clifton. I distinctly remember having breakfast with Sir Shah Nawaz, whosometimes consulted me about Zulfikar. He told me to persuade his son, myfriend, to be moderate in his social life. Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had any eve forcollecting antiques, like rare Iranian rugs, Mughal and Persian miniatures,bronzer etc. I was instrumental to enhance his collection. Zulfikar had the bestrare books on Sindh and also a collection of hand written Holy Qurans.About his political career in the beginning and forming the PPP, I do not have anyrecollections. However, when he became Pakistan’s Foreign Minister in PresidentAyub’s Government he used to frequently visit our showrooms, (VictoriaFurniture Mart) generally in the afternoon to share a cup of coffee with me. Once Isent him a few bottles of home made prawn pickles which he and his Begum werefond of. These pickles were much appreciated.Later on a new wing was added at Al-Murtaza Larkana, during the visits of lateShah Iran and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi for their stay there. Mr. Bhutto showedvery keen interest in furnishing his house and personally discussed details withme.I have very fond memories of his good nature and sense of humor.
