create opportunity?
Jessica Mahre, VP, APAC, A.T. Kearney Procurement &
Analytic Solutions, China
• Value creation opportunity from procurement will be critical
as competitive edge for most companies, separating the
leaders from the followers in the future. Procurement leaders
need to make significant strides to connect their organisations
internally and externally to create value to ensure their
function provides a higher level of service to the business.
• What levers procurement has to deliver to create real value to
the business and how can it take a commercial approach to
using them?
• How can Procurement leaders transform the procurement
function from organisation design and strategic priorities
through to defining critical elements of success?
16.00 Case Study: Outsourcing
Mrs Quyen, Sourcing Manager.
ThreeSixty Sourcing Limited (Vietnam)
What strategy will deliver the strongest procurement capability for
the company within the practical limitations of available funding,
and what will it take to execute this strategy?
With cost savings still top of the agenda, procurement executives
are employing several strategies, including contract renegotiation,
tighter contract compliance, global sourcing, hedging and
moving to outsourced procurement services.
Procurement outsourcing will be a prominent strategy in 2011.
Attitudes about procurement outsourcing are changing,
confidence and acceptance are rising, and so is contract activity.
While the majority of procurement outsourcing customers is the
largest corporations with over $5 billion in revenue, procurement
outsourcing is becoming especially attractive to mid-market
companies, who have found it challenging to invest in
development of indirect sourcing talent as well as eSourcing and
eProcurement tools.
13.15 Case Study: Category Management
André N. Verdier, President of the Executive Committee of
the Supply Chain and Logistics Group (SCLG) Middle East
Changing business environments and dynamics has led
Procurement managers to take a more strategic approach.
Global leading companies with category management structures
and methodologies require deployment of category expertise
within the organisations’ structure and to invest resources in
managing top spend portfolios.
We will focus on understanding categories profile and managing
the category management process as an end-to-end function to
optimise the return on supply investment.
We will discuss how to understand and approach category
management with the appropriate structure, category expertise,
methodology and governance.
13.50 Case Study: Partnership with stakeholders in driving
Indirect procurement spend optimization and
controls & compliance
Sebastian Chua, Procurement Director, S SEA,
Alcatel-Lucent Singapore Pte. Ltd.
‘Effective management of indirect spend is an under utilised
source of economic leverage. Reduction of spend with suppliers
carries a multiplier effect straight to bottom line profits.’
A recent study has identified how leading organisations are
managing the procurement of indirect goods and services.
Respondents to the study included procurement executives from
94 multinational companies with a combined indirect spend of
$134 billion.
Indirect spending typically accounts for 60% of third-party spend
in non-manufacturing companies, more than 90% in the financial
services industry and sometimes 50% of spend in manufacturing
organisations. The survey showed that indirect procurement
categories such as IT, marketing and advertising, facilities
management, MRO, logistics and professional services, have
grown significantly as focus categories for Chief Procurement
Officers and their organisations.
We will show how using Collaboration, to ensure great value can
be extracted from cash, Procurement leaders can work with
finance and treasury, team up with other business units for deeper
category expertise and external networks that can yield value,
and collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure they beat the
competition to innovative technologies and processes!
15.30 Case Study: Cost Cutting Measures - how
procurement can play a role beyond Price Savings
Brijesh Ansari, Head of Central Procurement, Automotive
Division, Al Futtaim Group, UAE
Procurement managers should focus on cash flow, working
capital, planning and performance as procurement organizations
are using traditional cost-cutting measures as well as advanced
techniques to meet their goals of higher cost efficiency and cash
savings.
How can Procurement managers develop, implement and sustain
higher cost efficient and cash savings cost cutting measures? They
will need to develop a detailed plan for 2011-12 to meet their
challenging targets as well as put in place mechanisms to monitor
the implementation of these initiatives.
16.00 Case Study: Competitive Sourcing from traditional
and non-traditional markets - A CPO journey from a
management strategies involving key parts of the business like
16.30 Case Study: Managing Talent & Building Capacity
Mr. Pravin Purang, Management Advisor & Group Head
– Procurement & Supply Chain Management, Jindal Steel
In order to contribute to the wider success of the organisation,
procurement needs a staffing profile which can complement the
needs and expectations of the business stakeholders. Finding and
retaining the best procurement practitioners in a competitive
market battle for talent has been a long standing significant
challenge for many firms.
We will examine the latest trends and strategies being employed
in procurement’s battle to attract and nurture the kind of talent
needed to deliver tangible business benefits across an ever
broadening and more strategic remit.
