In an effort to continue with ongoing education, Harley Marine Services providesCaptains and Mates a two-day simulator training program. During this simulatortraining, students create a voyage plan that follows Harley Marine policies andprocedures. The simulator exercise has a duration of approximately forty-fiveminutes and includes scenarios tailored specifically to Harley Marine and itsoperations. These trainings consist of lectures and demonstrations, as well aspractical exercises and full mission simulation. With this complete training system,Captains and Mates alike are better prepared to respond to changing andunexpected circumstances. They are also ready to better mentor, train, and pass ontheir extensive experience and knowledge.Some of the course elements include:Simulation familiarization and dry-runCOLREGSSituational AwarenessBoat handling and pilotingResource managementProper use of an assist boatSimulator TrainingSafety TrainingHarley Marine Services is in the fourth year of a four-year safety training programutilizing a certified training company. Employees who have completed the four-yearcycle will receive credit for a three-day basic safety training (BST) program. Thetraining entails basic firefighting, personal water survival, first-aid, CPR, and HarleyMarine Safety topics listed below. Respirator fit testing and HAZWOPER refreshertraining are also included.
