In an effort to cont<strong>in</strong>ue with ongo<strong>in</strong>g education, <strong>Harley</strong> Mar<strong>in</strong>e Services providesCapta<strong>in</strong>s and Mates a two-day simulator tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program. Dur<strong>in</strong>g this simulatortra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, students create a voyage plan that follows <strong>Harley</strong> Mar<strong>in</strong>e policies andprocedures. The simulator exercise has a duration of approximately forty-fivem<strong>in</strong>utes and <strong>in</strong>cludes scenarios tailored specifically to <strong>Harley</strong> Mar<strong>in</strong>e and itsoperations. These tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>gs consist of lectures and demonstrations, as well aspractical exercises and full mission simulation. With this complete tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g system,Capta<strong>in</strong>s and Mates alike are better prepared to respond to chang<strong>in</strong>g andunexpected circumstances. They are also ready to better mentor, tra<strong>in</strong>, and pass on<strong>the</strong>ir extensive experience and knowledge.Some of <strong>the</strong> course elements <strong>in</strong>clude:Simulation familiarization and dry-runCOLREGSSituational AwarenessBoat handl<strong>in</strong>g and pilot<strong>in</strong>gResource managementProper use of an assist boatSimulator Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>gSafety Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<strong>Harley</strong> Mar<strong>in</strong>e Services is <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fourth year of a four-year safety tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programutiliz<strong>in</strong>g a certified tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g company. Employees who have completed <strong>the</strong> four-yearcycle will receive credit for a three-day basic safety tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g (BST) program. Thetra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g entails basic firefight<strong>in</strong>g, personal water survival, first-aid, CPR, and <strong>Harley</strong>Mar<strong>in</strong>e Safety topics listed below.
