Since her debut withEnglish National Opera in 1987 she hasdeveloped a very close relationship with thecompany. Roles there have included Regan inReimann’s Lear, Mimì (La bohème),Malinka/Etherea/Kunka in Janác v ek’s TheAdventures of Mr Brouc v ek, Fiordiligi (Così fantutte), the title role in Holloway’s Clarissa, thetitle role in Salome, Tatyana (Eugene Onegin),and Mrs Foran in Mark Anthony Turnage’sThe Silver Tassie.Appearances throughout the UK haveincluded Marie (Wozzeck) for Opera North,Gutrune (Götterdämmerung) and Miss Jessel(The Turn of the Screw) for The Royal Opera,Jitka in Smetana’s Dalibor for Scottish Opera,and Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes) at the 1992,1994 and 2000 Glyndebourne Festivals. Shehas a strong affinity with Britten and returnedto the Festival in 1997 to sing the role ofMrs Coyle in Owen Wingrave. Elsewhere inEurope she has sung in Antwerp, Cologne, atthe Bayerische Staatsoper, Freiburg Opera andOpéra de Monte Carlo. She made her USdebut singing the title role in Kálmán’sThe Gypsy Princess for Opera Pacific in LosAngeles.Vivian Tierney is also active on the concertplatform where performances have includedShostakovich’s 14th Symphony, Milhaud’sLes Malheurs d’Orphée, Berg’s Wozzeck Suite,and Britten’s War Requiem.Andrew Shore is acknowledged as Britain’spremier buffo baritone and an outstandingsinger/actor. He has worked for EnglishNational Opera, Glyndebourne FestivalOpera, Opera North, The Royal Opera,Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera.Abroad he has worked for the Paris Opéra, theOpéra Comique, San Diego Opera, NewIsraeli Opera, the Liceu in Barcelona, in Lyon,Nantes, Montpelier, Copenhagen, Amsterdam,Vancouver and Ottawa.Engagements have included the title roles inWozzeck, King Priam, Falstaff, Gianni Schicchi,Le nozze di Figaro and Don Pasquale, Papageno(Die Zauberflöte), Dr Bartolo (Il barbiere diSiviglia), Dulcamara (The Elixir of Love), KingDodon (Le Coq d’or), Leandro (The Love forThree Oranges – an Opera North productionwhich was taken to the EdinburghInternational Festival and recorded fortelevision), Doeg (The Making of theRepresentative of Planet 8 by Philip Glass),Frank (Die Fledermaus), Baron (La Vieparisienne), Monsieur Calcul (La Belle Vivette),Dr Kolonaty (The Makropulos Case), BaronTrombonok (Il viaggio a Reims), Geronimo(Il matrimonio segreto), Bottom (A MidsummerNight’s Dream), Dikoy (Katya Kabanova), andAlberich in concert performances ofThe Rheingold for English National Opera.Recordings include the title role in DonPasquale, Dr Bartolo (The Barber of Seville),Dulcamara (The Elixir of Love), the Sacristanin Tosca, Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier(highlights) and La bohème (all for<strong>Chandos</strong>/Peter Moores Foundation).Dean Robinson was born and educated inAustralia, and moved to the UK in 1987 tocontinue his vocal studies at the RoyalNorthern College of Music in Manchester,where he received help from the Peter MooresFoundation. He continues to study withRobert Alderson. Operatic engagementsinclude Pluto (Orfeo), and Passauf in the worldpremiere of Dr Ox’s Experiment for EnglishNational Opera; Sparafucile (Rigoletto) andSarastro (Die Zauberflöte) for Scottish Opera:Colline (La bohème), Mr Ratcliffe (Billy Budd)and Angelotti (Tosca) for Welsh NationalOpera; and Bonze (Madam Butterfly) forRaymond Gubbay. For The Royal Opera hehas performed supporting roles in Lohengrin,Don Carlos, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg,and Palestrina, which was also performed at theMetropolitan Opera in New York.Concert engagements include Bach’s St JohnPassion at Westminster Abbey; Beethoven’sSymphony No. 9 with both the ManchesterCamerata and the Northern Sinfonia, Verdi’sRequiem and Haydn’s Creation at the RoyalAlbert Hall with Sir David Willcocks, Berlioz’sL’Enfance du Christ with Kent Nagano, andMozart’s Requiem in Utrecht, Groningen andStockholm with Eric Ericsson.Mary Plazas studied with Ava June at theRoyal Northern College of Music, where shewas supported by the Peter MooresFoundation and the Countess of MunsterMusical Trust. She made her operatic debut in1992 with English National Opera as theHeavenly Voice (Don Carlos), and from 1995spent three years there as a company principal.Roles have included Mimì, Leila, Adina,Nannetta, Micaëla, Marzelline (Fidelio), andthe title role in The Cunning Little Vixen(English National Opera), Susanna (Le nozzedi Figaro), Tebaldo (Don Carlos) and Elisetta2829
