I wouldrather that my spark should burn out in abrilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dryrot. Fellow Lions,As this will be my last article for the DG's Newsletter forthis Lionistic year I thought I would summarize whatthe MERL team have achieved this year. The MERL team have conducted membership drivesfor eThekwini South Lions Club and Richards Bay.Both being extremely successful, eThekwini South isnow a fully chartered club and Richards Bay now has abranch of Empangeni Lions Club called “The Bay”. Mysincere thanks go to Kingsburgh and Empangeni LionsClubs for their sponsorship of these clubs. We have also assisted many other clubs withMembership evenings, distribution of PR materials, assistance with the submission of MMR's and PU101'sand general membership related enquiries. The recent Lions Information weekend at Midmar Damwas again extremely successful with many new Lionsin attendance, I'm sure everyone who attended gainedknowledge and motivation from the weekend. We also conducted the Club Dynamics workshop atthe MD Convention in Worcester which was very wellreceived.I'm also very proud to say that our District are definitelyleading the way when it comes to Family membership. At our District convention we voted in favour ofintroducing the family membership dues structure toour district fees, which I feel will have a positive impactfor our membership. The other thing that has beenfirmly put in place this year is the children's programsat District events. Both at Midyear conference and theLions Information weekend at Midmar this facility wasmade available and it was well attended. If we are tomove forward, attract younger members and familiesthen we must ensure that our organisation caters forthem. We should be very proud that our District hasfully taken this on board Actions speak Louder ThanWords.Membership information has been distributed on anongoing basis. The monthly membership return is sentto all clubs as well as a monthly article in the DG'snewsletter. Zone Chairpersons have also distributedinformation when necessary. On a personal note, I can honestly say that I havethoroughly enjoyed being the MERL Chairperson andleading such a dedicated team. The MERL team haveworked well together throughout the year, meetingregularly and putting words into action.stIt has been my pleasure to serve the District as 1 VDGand I wish 1stVDGE John and his team a rewardingand productive year ahead.Yours In ServiceDebbieDGE3rd July DG Debbie returns -Meet at Airport at 7pm22/23/24 October MidyearConference - PortEdwardThe training weekend at Midmar say 5 of the new Zonechairmen for next year gathering to learn about theirjobs for next year.L-R Walter Richter , Otto Kruger, Belinda Blakeman,Chris Stange and Thys Grobler.
