<strong>Maintenance</strong>End-user routinemaintenanceSome of the periodic maintenancefunctions for the unit can beundertaken by the end user, thisincludes replacing (disposable) orcleaning (permanent) air filters,cleaning unit cabinet, clearing thecondenser coil, and carrying out ageneral unit inspection on a regularbasis.Warning: Before removing accesspanels to service the unit,disconnect the power supply.Failure to disconnect power beforeattempting any servicing can resultin severe injury or death.Air filtersIt is very important that the centralduct system air filters are keptclean.These should be inspected at leastonce a month when the system is inconstant operation (in newbuildings, the filters should bechecked every week for the first 4weeks).If disposable type filters are usedthey should only be replaced withones of the same type and size. Formaximum pressure drops throughthe filters, refer to the installationsection of this manual.Note: Do not attempt to cleandisposable filters. Permanent typefilters can be cleaned by washingwith a mild detergent and water.Ensure that the filters arethoroughly dry before reinstallingthem in the unit (or duct system).Note: Replace permanent filtersannually if washing fails to cleanthem, or they show signs ofdeterioration. Be sure to use thesame type and size as wereoriginally installed.Condenser coilUnfiltered air circulates through theunit's condenser coil and can causethe coil surface to become cloggedwith dust, dirt, etc... To clean thecoil, brush the coil surface in thedirection of the fins with a softbristled brush. Keep all vegetationaway from the condenser coil area.Service technicianmaintenanceBefore the cooling season,perform the following steps:1. Clean or replace filters.2. Check motors and drives.3. Replace economizer gaskets ifnecessary.4. Tighten and clean condenser fangrille.5. Clean condenser coils.6. Check safety controls.7. Check electrical components andwiring and tighten connectionsas necessary.8. Clean condensate drain.9. Inspect unit duct connections toensure they are physically soundand sealed to the unit casing.10. Inspect unit mounting support tosee that it is sound.11. Inspect unit to ensure there is noobvious deterioration.Before the heating season,perform the following steps:- Visually inspect the unit to ensurethat the airflow required for thecombustion and condenser coil isnot obstructed from the unit.- Visually inspect the flue stack toensure the exhaust path is clearand free of obstructions.- Inspect the control panel wiring toverify that all electricalconnections are tight and that wireinsulation is intact.- Check the operation and safeties ofthe gas ignition system.54RT-SVX16C-E4
