S 16OTTOCOLL ® S 16The mirror adhesiveCharacteristics:• Neutral-curing 1-component siliconeadhesive based on alcoxy• Adheres on all commercial mirrorcoatings without any primers• Does not damage the mirror coatingFields of application:• Stress-compensating bonding ofmirrors on ceramic, glass, plastic, stainless steel, aluminium, wood, concrete etc.• Also suitable as adhesive for acrylicglass mirrors (e. g. Plexiglas ® )Notes:®• OTTOCOLL S 16 may only be used to bond mirrors of wichthe reflection and protective layer comply with DIN 1238 5.1and DIN EN 1036. In case of doubt, please always obtaininformation from the mirror manufacturer• Mineral substrates, such as concrete, plaster, masonry, gypsum board, cellular concrete and untreated wood mustalways be primed with OTTO Primer 1105. This barrierprimer serves to improve the adhesion and is absolutelynecessary to block alkalinity. Un-blocked alkalinity in combinationwith humidity can possibly damage the rear-side ofthe mirror®• With OTTOCOLL S 610 we also offer a 2-componentsilicone adhesive for mirrorsAdditional useful information:For stress-compensating bonding of mirrors on ceramics, glass, plastic, stainless steel, aluminium, wood, concrete, plaster, masonry, gypsum board, aerated concrete oruntreated wood. Commercially available mirror coatingsdo not need to be primed. OTTO Primer 1105 must beapplied thickly on mineral surfaces. Airing-out takes atleast 30 minutes. Coated chipboard must be pretreatedwith OTTO Primer 1216. When bonding onto substratesnot mentioned here, please consult our Applications Technologydepartment.Never apply S 16 in dots or over the whole surface butalways in vertical stripes (beads). At least three adhesivestripes of approx. 10 mm width each have to be appliedper square metre of mirror in order to facilitate the air circulationrequired for vulcanisation. The minimum distancebetween mirror and substrate must stringently be 1.6 mm,which can be realised by sticking on spacers. Preliminaryfixation until curing (at least 48 hours) can be carried outwith adhesive strips, blocks of wood or wedges. For sealing the outside edges of the mirror in combinationwith natural stones we advise S 70, in combination withother materials like ceramics, metal, glass etc. we adviseS 120, S 121 and S 125.Please note that sealing of the outside edges of the mirrormust not take place before complete curing S 16 and thedecomposition products have completely escaped. Thistakes about 7 days. Mirrors without glass backs shouldonly be sealed at the vertical edges to avoid damagesto the mirror coating due to the formation of condensedwater.Colour310 mlCartridgemint-whiteS16-04-C97Packaging unit20/BoxPieces per pallet 1,200Correcttopnot above200 mmapprox.10 mmwidth ofsiliconebottomIncorrectFor an ideal adhesionor load capacityan undercoat ofminimum 10 cm² perkg weight of pane, applied in strings, isnecessary.76Other quantities and special colours on request. S 17OTTOSEAL ® S 17The neutralhigh temperaturesiliconeCharacteristics:• Neutral-curing 1-component siliconesealant• Extraordinary long-term temperatureresistance up to +285 °C• Non-corrosiveFields of application:• High temperature resistant and stillstress-compensating bonding andsealing, e. g. for cast member heatingboilers, exhaust boxes, tile stoves etc.• Also suitable for applications inautomotive areas for engines andgearboxesAdditional useful information:The difference between the two high temperaturesilicones, OTTOSEAL ® S 17 and OTTOSEAL ® S 25, lies inthe type of curing:OTTOSEAL ® S 17 is a neutral curing sealant based onoxime; OTTOSEAL ® S 25 is an acetate curing sealant. The high temperature resistance of OTTOSEAL ® S 17 of upto +285 °C is complemented by the fact that the sealantis non-corrosive. The high degree of Shore-A hardnessof approx. 35 is also indicative of the notch-resistantproperties. These combined values result in a sealant thatis suitable for use in heavy-duty applications, e.g. enginesand transmissions.Standards and tests:• UL 94 Flame Classification HB RTI 105 °C, File No. E 176319Notes:®• OTTOSEAL S 17 is not a fire-proof silicone.
