Our reconciliation journey<strong>MEGT</strong> would like<strong>to</strong> sincerely thankeveryone involved inthe development ofthe <strong>MEGT</strong> <strong>RAP</strong> and fortheir commitment <strong>to</strong>reconciliation.Since commencement in 1982 <strong>MEGT</strong>has worked with Aboriginal and TorresStrait Islander people, governments,businesses and communities, <strong>to</strong>increase equal employmen<strong>to</strong>pportunities for all <strong>Australia</strong>ns.With government program fundingsupport and close relationships withcommunities, <strong>MEGT</strong> has developeda culturally appropriate men<strong>to</strong>ringand support employment model forIndigenous apprentices and traineesand established the IndigenousApprenticeship and TraineeshipNetwork in 2009. Employment throughthe Indigenous Apprenticeship andTraineeship Network has achievedapproximately 68% completion ratesand its work recognised throughmembership of the IndigenousEmployment Panel.Since 2005, <strong>MEGT</strong>’s <strong>Australia</strong>nApprenticeships Centre has alsoassisted over 6,700 Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander people <strong>to</strong> gaindirect employment through an<strong>Australia</strong>n Apprenticeship.From August 2012, <strong>MEGT</strong>’s Educationservices expanded <strong>to</strong> include vocationaltraining for Indigenous <strong>Australia</strong>ns withcontracts through the Indigenous LandCorporation for the Mossman GorgeTraining Centre and Home Valley Station.<strong>MEGT</strong>’s <strong>Reconciliation</strong> Action Plan hasbeen developed in consultation with<strong>MEGT</strong>’s Office of the Chief Executive,Executive Management, Divisionalrepresentatives, Aboriginal and TorresStrait Islander people and advisors.The draft was refined with input from<strong>Reconciliation</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>.On 23 April <strong>2013</strong> the <strong>MEGT</strong> Boardconsidered and formally adopted thisdocument as the <strong>MEGT</strong> (<strong>Australia</strong>)Ltd <strong>Reconciliation</strong> Action Plan and madea commitment <strong>to</strong> its implementation.The <strong>MEGT</strong> <strong>Reconciliation</strong> ActionPlan provides a strategic framework<strong>to</strong> unite the organisation in its goal ofovercoming the differing opportunitiesthat currently exist for Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander people. Moreimportantly, it is a commitment <strong>to</strong>building stronger partnerships with<strong>Australia</strong>’s first people in order<strong>to</strong> improve pathways <strong>to</strong> educationand employment for Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander people.This is a living document. It will beregularly re<strong>view</strong>ed and moni<strong>to</strong>red<strong>to</strong> ensure <strong>MEGT</strong> continues in itscommitment <strong>to</strong> ‘Closing the Gap’.The <strong>Reconciliation</strong> Action Plan will bemanaged within Terms of Reference bya Working Group comprising membersacross the organisation.<strong>MEGT</strong> (<strong>Australia</strong>) Ltd <strong>Reconciliation</strong> Action Plan <strong>2013</strong> – <strong>2014</strong> | 11
