AdmissionCommunicationCommunication MajorThe communication major will consider applicants who:q Meet the requirements for admission to all master’s-level programs.q Have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college oruniversity with a major in speech, communication, mass communication; orrelated areas such as anthropology, business, cultural studies, journalism, psychology;or other fields compatible with the discipline of communication.q Have successfully completed college-level subject matter prerequisites froma regionally accredited institution. Each course must have earned at least twosemester credits and may have been taken at the undergraduate or graduatelevel.• Interpersonal Communication, Family Communication, or Group Process(This requirement may be fulfilled by the College of Adult & ProfessionalStudies elective courses COMM102: Interpersonal Communication Skillsor COMM104: Introduction to Family Communication.)• Media Communication, Mass Communication, or a survey of the media• Statistics (This requirement may be filled by the College of Adult & ProfessionalStudies elective course PSYC335M: Introduction to Statistics.)• A course that focuses on multicultural issues in areas such as sociology,anthropology, intercultural communication, or education (This requirementmay be filled by the College of Adult & Professional Studies electivecourse COMM206E: Intercultural Communication.)q Submit a current resume that includes work experience as well as experiencesrelated to communication skills.q Submit three Admission References from persons capable of evaluating theapplicant’s potential for success in a graduate program including, if possible,one from a previous professor.q Submit Miller Analogies Test score report (taken within the last three years).q Submit a recent Sample of Written Work from an academic or professional task.q Interview with program faculty.Postsecondary Teaching CertificateThe Certificate in Postsecondary Teaching program will consider applicants who:q Meet the requirements for admission to all master’s-level programs.q Have earned a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, arecurrently in a master’s program at a regionally accredited institution, or byconsent of the program director.12
