Criteria for Trademark AdaptationsWhile the trademark was developed for commercial use in advertising and for promoting UNC HealthCare’s patient services, limited use of adaptations of the trademark can add value to the UNC Health CareSystem’s brand identity. Accordingly, the UNC Health Care System has issued a limited number of licensesfor adaptations of the trademark to certain entities in the UNC-Chapel HIll Division of Health Affairs.Criteria that must be met before applications for use of variants of the UNC Health Care trademarkwill be considered include:• The entity proposing use of a UNC Health Care trademark variant must be a UNC-Chapel Hill healthaffairs enterprise with a demonstrable connection to patient care.• Applications of entities seeking a license for use of a UNC Health Care trademark variant mustconvincingly document how the applying entity’s use of the UNC Health Care trademark variation willmaterially contribute to the UNC Health Care System’s brand identity.• Applying entities must be prepared to contract with the UNC Health Care System to guaranteeutilization of the trademark variant under strict licensing terms, including investment of whateverresources may be necessary to professionally implement and monitor utilization of the licensed UNCHealth Care variant.License Application ProcessWritten application for UNC Health Care trademark variations that meet the above criteria may beaddressed to the UNC Health Care System, Public Affairs & Marketing, 101 Manning Drive, 6003 EastWing, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.Public Affairs & Marketing: 919-966-3366 • 919-966-6207 (fax) • www.unchealthcare.org3
