WOMEN IN BUSINESS SUMMITAnnual ProgressiveWomen in BusinessSummitTo coincide with Women’s Month in August, the ANC’sProgressive Business Forum (PBF) hosted the annualProgressive Women in Business Summit at Gallagher Estate,Midrand, on 20 August 2012.The event, which focused on thetwin themes of finance andempowerment, was attendedby some 350 guests representing PBFbusiness subscribers and leadingwomen in business from across thecountry.Mr Jay Ramnundlall, CEO ofthe headline sponsor of the event,PC Training & Business College,delivered the opening address, andwas pleased to welcome so manyparticipants to the meeting. Theprestigious event was attendedand addressed by the chairpersonof the ANC Women’s League andMinister of Basic Education, Ms AngieMotshekga (as keynote speaker);Mr Malusi Gigaba, Minister ofPublic Enterprises; Mr NhlanhlaNene, Deputy Minister of Finance;Ms Tokozile Xasa, Deputy Ministerof Tourism, and Prof HlengiweMkhize, Deputy Minister of EconomicDevelopment and treasurer of theANC Women’s League.According to the programmedirector, Daryl Swanepoel, whoserves as co-convenor of the PBF,the Progressive Women in BusinessSummit will become an annual eventon the PBF calendar, also havinginstituted an annual women’s awardto recognise the achievement ofleading women in business. Ms MollyRamnundlall from PC Training &Business College has been asked tohead up the body that would make theaward each year.8 I S S U E 1
ADVERTORIALIn her keynote address, MinisterMotshekga captured the mood of theevent when she quoted President JacobZuma in saying: “Women’s Day 2012takes place in a significant year; thecelebration of the ANC’s 100 years ofselfless struggle. It was a struggle inwhich women played a pivotal role tobring about freedom and a society freeof poverty, inequality and racism.” TheMinister added that “young womenwill be the beneficiaries of change tothe extent that we, together, create theright climate for real empowerment,something in which effectivecommunication between Governmentand the business community is vital”.Several leading role players inbusiness addressed the summit,including Molly Ramnundlall fromPC Training & Business College,Vasi Govinder-Padayachy from TSLSHoldings, Thandi Ndlovu from MotheoConstruction Group, SimbonileNtshinka from ITEC Tiyende (Pty)Ltd, Stella Mashego from NtsangalalaBusiness Enterprise, Tebogo Nkosifrom Boffin & Fundi (Pty) Ltd, JennyWu from Always Through Forwarding,and Farhana Suder from Neo Africa.The summit was concluded with aluncheon and networking opportunity,which saw intense interaction andmentoring – a clear and recurring themethroughout the event.
