The Find Rate function will calculate rateinformation for a variety of cyclical data, including BPM, Hz, peak max, peakmin, P-P, area, and mean.For example, suppose you want to calculate BPM for the entire ECGwaveform once it has been collected.
BSL PRO Tutorial 27Select CH 1, ECG.Choose Analysis > Find Rate.Select the function Rate (BPM).Check to enable “Transformentire wave.”Click OK.BSL PRO calculates the rateand displays its graph.Note the new CH 5 Rate channelthat has been added to the graphwindow.To do this, select CH 1 and choosethe menu command Analysis > FindRate to generate the Find Ratedialog. View the functions availableboth the Signal Parameters and theOutput tabs.Note the other options allowing youto customize the Rate calculation.Find Rate can operate as a simplethreshold detector or can includemore sophisticated parameters suchas noise rejection and windowing.Custom “Signal types” (or presets)can also be created and saved.BSL PRO calculates thethreshold values and computesthe rate for the entirewaveform. The rate is chartedand added to the current graphwindow. Options enable you tolimit the transformation to aselected area, and to display therate graph in a new window.ANALYSIS > HISTOGRAMSelect CH 1, ECG.Choose Analysis > Histogram.Set the bins value to “50.”Click OK.Close the Histogram graphwindow without saving.A related type of transformation is the histogram, which allows you to displaydata in summary format and examine the central tendency characteristics andvariability within a waveform.Choosing Analysis >Histogram generates theHistogram Options dialog.The dialog prompts you toenter the number of “bins”to sort the values into, and(if you do not accept thedefault “autorange”) toenter the upper and lowerbounds of the data to be sorted. Type “50” in the bins entry and click OK.The resulting waveform is generated ina new graph window and shouldresemble the histogram plot shownhere.© BIOPAC Systems, Inc. www.biopac.com
