Funded through the H.J. <strong>Heinz</strong> <strong>Company</strong>, the Foundation proactively donates<br />
financial resources to help develop and strengthen organizations that are<br />
dedicated to the following core program areas.<br />

accessibility for low-income and<br />
disadvantaged individuals through<br />
art, cultural, educational and<br />
outreach programs.<br />
We continue to support organizations committed to<br />
nutrition and health, including the Sprinkles Global Health<br />
Initiative and ACTIVATE/Kidnetic.com. (see Pages 19 and 31<br />
for more information).<br />
We have been the sole industry sponsor of Tomatosphere<br />
since its inception in 2001. The purpose of this national<br />
educational project is to continue teaching Canadian primary<br />
school children about space exploration, scientific research,<br />
plant biology, nutrition and agriculture. Every year, students from<br />
across the country have the opportunity to grow <strong>Heinz</strong> tomato<br />
seeds that have been exposed to a Mars-like environment.<br />
We continue to support the <strong>Heinz</strong> Scholars Program in<br />
partnership with Washington & Lee University (see Page 26<br />
for further information).<br />
We are dedicated to supporting the efforts of the Women’s<br />
Center and Shelter to end domestic violence in the lives of<br />
women and children. The Shelter’s services include a 24-hour<br />
counseling hotline; risk assessment and safety planning;<br />
individual and group counseling; legal and medical advocacy;<br />
and prevention education.<br />
We are proud to fund the efforts of the Pittsburgh Cultural<br />
Trust. Aimed at revitalizing the community, the Trust has<br />
successfully driven the development and promotion of a<br />
14-block Cultural District.
