Digital Service ManualQuadMADI (ESP) (SUN820-204, A204, B204 and C204)CARD DESCRIPTIONMADI Interfaces : The board provides four MADI/TAXI ports. Each port can be configured asTAXI format to run with AMS Neve equipment such as an IOS or MTI rack unit. It can also beconfigured as MADI format to interface with any other MADI equipment such as multitracktape machines. It is a full implementation of MADI with user bits and channel status.Delay RAM : The SUN820-204 and SUN820B204 have a total of 20 seconds delay RAM(10 seconds on Rx and 10 seconds on Tx). The SUN820A204 and SUN820C204 have atotal of 5 seconds delay RAM. This delay RAM can be allocated freely among the maximum256 channels which can pass through the card. The maximum delay of a channel isallocated at boot up but the actual delay can be varied from 0 to maximum delay using acontrol knob on the console.Metering : The SUN820A204 has 2 metering processors on board which allow all the I/O tobe metered.Dithering: All boards have the ability to dither the outputs. The dither options areRectangular, Triangular, LSB rounding or none with the option to dither to 16, 18, 20 or 24bit converter length. The type and length can be selected on a channel by channel basis andis set up in the I/O Designer page. The QuadMADI also generates the master timing in the SPS thus enabling the ESPs to run.Signal PresenceEach TX and RX Channel can be monitored for signal presence i.e. whether the signal level isabove four different levels. These levels are peak (highest level), red, orange and green(lowest level). These levels are software programmable, which can detect signal levels down to -96dB.Issue 3 Page 18
