Page Four Divine Mercy Sunday March 30, 2008DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY"I shall sing forever the Lord's mercy." (Ps 89 [88]) This Sunday is popularly known as Mercy of God Sunday. Between1930 and 1938 Christ appeared to Sister Faustina, a Sister of Mercy in Poland who initiated the Divine Mercy devotion. She was canonized on April 30, 2000, the Sunday after Easter, the Feast of Divine Mercy. On Good Friday, 1937, Jesusrequested that Blessed Faustina make a special novena before the Feast of Mercy, from Good Friday through the followingSaturday. Jesus also asked that a pic-ture be painted according to the vision ofHimself as the fountain of mercy. Hegave her a chaplet to be recited and saidthat it was appropriate to pray the chap-let at three o'clock each afternoon (theHour of Great Mercy).During the Mass of canonization of St.the Great Jubilee, Pope John Paul II proacceptthe whole message that comes toSunday of Easter, which from now onDivine Mercy Sunday." The readings ontrust and the forgiveness of sins.Faustina on April 30, 2000, the year ofclaimed: "It is important then that weus from the word of God on this Secondthroughout the Church, will be calledthat Sunday are always about mercy,By the words "the whole message," theHoly Father was referring to the strictconnection between the "Easter Mystery of the Redemption" -- the suffering, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension ofChrist, followed by the sending of the Holy Spirit -- and this Feast of Divine Mercy, theOctave Day of Easter. This feast adds so much more meaning to the Easter celebrations. It was Jesus, Himself whoasked for it to be celebrated on this particular Sunday following Easter.“….On one occasion, I heard these words: "My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desirethat the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depthsof My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me,even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom itthroughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come forth from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soulin its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy throughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from Myvery depths of tenderness. It is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind willnot have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.”OUR STEWARDSHIP OFTREASUREPalm SundayMarch 16, 2008Envelopes: $ 8,773.00Loose Cash: $ 4,977.00TOTAL: $ 13,750.00Thank you for your continued supportof St. Ferdinand Parish!Dziękujemy za złożone ofiary. Page Six Divine Mercy Sunday March 30, 2008ORGAN FUND updateMy heartfelt thanks to all who have donated so far to our Organ Fund. As of Easter Sunday the total amounted to$155,657. A great amount of the collected total was possible thanks to one of our generous parish family which donated$51,000 toward our goal! I am deeply grateful for their generosity and kindness. It is a great help which enables us tostart the prep work including painting and carpentry at the choir area of our church.Every dollar, every donation that you personally or through one of our parish groups give, is very significant because wewill sooner be able to install the new organ. As we announced already, your name will be displayed on our specialbenefactor plaque in the church vestibule commemorating the 50 th Anniversary of St. Ferdinand Church.Sincere thanks to the TORCH (Teens Of Our Church) Youth Club and its moderators, Irene and Rob Heidelbauer. Theymade paper piggybanks and organized a collection among the youth and kids from our school and so far collected$2,000. The amount is not important as the idea of including our youngest parishioners into the fundraising efforts.Second collection next Sunday will be for the Organ Fund.As you may have noticed already the envelopes marked Building and Maintenance Fund are back. They were requestedby some of our parishioners especially those who attend Masses in our Chapel. They don’t feel necessary donatingmonthly to the Organ Fund, but would like to support the building and maintenance fund on an ongoing basis. We stillhave quite a few building maintenance items to complete e.g. finish renovatingthe sacristy and many things on the parish grounds after the long andhard winter. I would like to thank anyone in advance who is willing to supportthis fund as well.Let the blessings of Our Lord be the greatest expression of our thanks andgratitude for you and your family. Once a month a Mass is celebrated for theintention of all benefactors and supporters of our parish. God Bless you!Fr. Jason Torba

Ks.
