I am often asked if I have any favourite things when it comes to
designing and decorating, and I always have to stop, take a moment,
and think. This is because there are just too many things that
crowd to the top of my current list!
A Few of My
Favourites
Favourite Design City?
Paris, hands down
the CIty of WIne Women and sonG has Been one of
the big influences on the world for a long time. It seems that
there is good design everywhere you turn in Paris. This is one of
the nicest cities in the world to walk around in as the older centre
is very human scaled. from the museé des Beaux arts at the
louvre, which is the repository for everything fine, french and
designed, to the marché aux Puces, or flea market, which is the
place where everything else seems to end up, there is no lack of
beautiful things to inspire any space.
Then there is the food, the wine and the style that french
men, and especially women, flaunt with seemingly effortless
ease. It would not be difficult to devote an entire page just to
by Bruce M. Forster
fashion, so I’ll leave that to others and another time. Just suffice
to say that the elegant simplicity that the french bring to
fashion is something that we could all strive towards. no one
replaces their entire wardrobe, but adds a new key element to
bring them up-to-date.
The french have been very good at the wine thing for a long
time as well. I love a place where “table wine” is not looked down
on as something that should stay in a brown paper bag. also,
where on earth would we be without champagne, and all of its
imitators as well? no matter the occasion, it is always better
with something bubbly and sparkling to drink. as they say, vive
la france, and especially vive le Paris!
