Favourites
Favourite Colour?
The colour purple
as dIana Vreeland saId aBoUt PInK
being the new black in the ’70s (or was it
the ’80s?) purple is already hot in fashion,
and will be even more so in your
home in the next eighteen to twenty-four
months. Purple is the convergence of
red and blue, and replaces both of them
when it acts as an accent colour. Think
royalty, elegance, luxury and wine (there
it is again!). I really like the colour on the
wall, in anything from the palest of lilacs
or lavenders, to the deepest shades that
are almost grape black. It is a very good
colour that complements a lot of other
colours as well, working very well with
browns, greys, some of the warm green
tones, and even ochre yellows.
Favourite Chocolate?
Dark
It has to Be darK, WIthoUt a doUBt.
The more cocoa butter the better, as that
means more flavour. any time of day is
chocolate time, as far as I’m concerned.
one of the best accompaniments, especially
for dessert, is a good rich red wine.
hmmm, more wine. you’re going to think
that that is all I do – eat chocolate and
drink wine. Unfortunately, that isn’t the
case, but wouldn’t that be nice!
Favourite Style?
A bit tricky
to my mInd, any style Is Good
as long as it is well done, and not some
pale imitation. I like almost anything
from the orient, anything european, and
have a great passion for things ethnic, as
long as they are honestly presented when
used in a room. now having said that, I
don’t make Chinese bedrooms, or louis
Quatorze living rooms, as that would be
just too much. I leave that to museums
and movies, both of which create wonderful
period settings. I’m often inspired by
such things, but would only use a little
bit of something oriental, ethnic or
european in a room. In that way, the contrast
between the pieces with the extra
style sets off the rest of the room, which
often is very simple.
