<strong>Course</strong> <strong>Descriptions</strong>MCC101 – LVMCC Basics for Operators and ElectriciansPre-requisite: Working knowledge of basic electricity.Equipment construction, arrangement, ratings, and modular component options are reviewed.Discussions include typical arrangements. Circuit breaker, components, and system integration arereviewed. Thermal-magnetic and instantaneous-only circuit breaker topics are discussed. Typicalinduction motor schematic diagrams are reviewed; control methods include FVNR with start-stop andh-o-a control. Testing guidance is provided. “Hands-On” session identifies typical devices, performsbasic mechanical handling, contactor “racking-in and racking-out”, and functional operation.Discussions include typical NFPA 70E lockout/tagout and safety practices. Class documents includemanufacturer instruction manual(s) and project specific drawings.MCC201 – MVMCC Basics for Operators and ElectriciansPre-requisite: MCC101 – LVMCC Basics for Operators and Electricians or equivalent workexperience.Equipment construction, arrangement, ratings, modular component options and capabilities arereviewed. Typical arrangements and grounding methods are discussed. Circuit breaker and fuseconsiderations, component and system integration are reviewed. Typical induction motor schematicdiagrams are reviewed; control methods include FVNR with start-stop and h-o-a control, undervoltagedropout with delay, reduced voltage starting methods, and reacceleration group motor restarting aftervoltage depressions. Testing guidance is provided. Modern equipment designs are discussed. Safety isemphasized throughout the discussions. Equipment exhibits reinforce discussion topics. “Hands-On”session performs basic mechanical handling, contactor “racking-in and racking-out”, functional andelectrical tests. Safe handling and operation are emphasized.
