Broadband Resilience ServiceReferenceServiceBrief DescriptionPackageThis LGfL ServiceBroadband Resilience ServiceBroadband Resilience ServiceThis service provides schools with a backup connection to the LGfLso that service will continue even if the primary connection fails.Separate set-up and annual chargeis supported by SynetrixThe LGfL network has an excellent track record of continuity of service, and a history of SLAmetrics is available to verify this. However, schools are typically linked to the network via a single fibre connection, whichrepresents a single point of failure. This service provides the means for a school to invest in asecond lower cost connection using an ADSL link which routes back to the core network via adifferent route. Although the capacity of the fail-over ADSL link is significantly less than the fibrelink, essential services such as email can (in the event of a failure in the main fibre link) bemaintained, as well as slower access to remote (Internet or other) resources. The annual charge is £2,517 (set-up £2,664)https://support.lgfl.org.uk/public/docs/lgfl_services/SF_BRS.pdfNetwork Health ChecksReferenceServiceBrief DescriptionPackageThis LGfL ServiceNetwork Health CheckNetwork Health CheckThis service provides schools with a network health check.Separate one-off chargeis supported by SynetrixIt has been a common occurrence for the LGfL Customer Service Centre to receive service callsfor schools wishing to report a ‘slow connection’. It is a common perception that when theexperience of the user at the computer ‘desktop’ is slow, the reason must be the LGfL connection. In practice, this is rarely the case, as can readily be established by attaching a (laptop) computerto the switch where the LGfL service is presented on site.In some cases, the slow experience at the desktop is the result of weaknesses in the design orconfiguration of the school’s on-site local area network and poorly-configured proxy servers are acommon culprit. School networks have sometimes developed in an irregular way without expertoversight, and a school may lack the expertise in-house to accurately assess the performance ofits in-house network. The LGfL Network Health Check Service provides a means to obtain a cost-effective assessment, diagnosis and recommendations of any required remedial action. The one-off charge for this service is £485 for a Primary school and £695 for a Secondary school.https://support.lgfl.org.uk/public/docs/lgfl_services/SF_HealthCheck.pdfSecure Remote Access ServiceReferenceServiceBrief DescriptionPackageThis LGfL ServiceSecure Remote Access ServiceSecure Remote Access ServiceThis service allows secure access to school networks and serversfrom outside school.Separate set-up and annual chargeis supported by Synetrix11
