Blood collection tube must be allowed to fill completely.A difference in test values before and after plasma treatment with Hepzyme indicates the presence of heparin inthe sample.Order Heparin Neutralization in addition to the coagulation procedure to:(a) rule out heparin contamination as cause of abnormal coagulation results of APTT, PT, and TCT assays;(b) approximation of patient's baseline APTT if heparin bolus was given prior to specimen collection;(c) evaluate patients on combined heparin and coumadin therapy;(d) neutralize heparin effect on blood drawn from IV or INT through which heparin has been run or flushed, orafter patient has began a dialysis treatment.Must collect two 2.7 mL Blue Top tubes.Transport Temperature:AmbientStabilityAmbient : 4 HoursRefrigerated: UnacceptableFrozen: 1 WeekTo prepare "platelet-poor plasma" do the following:1. Centrifuge the specimen and remove the plasma to a plastic transfer tube.2. Re-spin the plasma, this time removing 2/3 of the plasma to a second plastic transfer tube.3. Label the re-spun plasma as "platelet-poor plasma" and indicate the date and time collected.4. Freeze the re-spun plasma for transport to the Lab.
