Are usually ordered in sets of two.1. Wipe the top of each blood culture bottle to be used with alcohol and allow to dry.2. Locate a proper vein for the venipuncture.3. Cleanse the area using a ChloraPrep. Pinch the wings on the applicator to break the ampule. Do not touch thepad.Gently apply ChloraPrep for 30 seconds. DO NOT TOUCH OR BLOW ON THE SITE.Allow to air dry. Discard applicator after a single use.4. Perform the venipuncture using a needle/butterfly and syringe.5. Divide the specimen equally inoculating the anaerobic bottle first then the aerobic bottle(If the patient is a child or an extremely hard to stick adult, inoculate the aerobic bottle only with 0.5 ml - 3.0 mlof whole blood.)6. Invert bottles to mix contents.7.
