In diffusion mode, the atmosphere beingmeasured reaches the sensors by diffusingthrough vents in the instrument. Normal airmovements are enough to carry the sample tothe sensors. The sensors react quickly tochanges in the concentrations of the gases beingmeasured. Diffusion-style operation monitorsonly the atmosphere that immediately surroundsthe detector. The PHD6 can also be used to sample remotelocations with either the hand-aspirated sampledrawkit, or with the motorized sample drawpump. During remote sampling, the gas sampleis drawn into the sensor compartment through theprobe assembly and a length of tubing. The PHD6 is deliveredwith a sample draw kit that contains 10 feet/3meters of polyester urethane (fuel-resistant)tubing part number 53-001. This material iscompletely compatible with commoncombustible gases/vapors, and the toxicgases CO and H 2 S. When using the PHD6with a sample draw pump or kit to samplewith any of the gas types and tubing lengthslisted in the chart below, FEP-Lined Tubing(part number 53-036) should be used.connect the sample draw accessories system tothe PHD6.Note: The maximum amount of tubing thatcan be used with the manual sample draw kitis 50 feet/15 meters.Gas TypeCL 2 , CLO 2HCNPID, SO 2 , NO, NO 2 ,PH 3 , NH 3Tubing LengthUp to 10 ft/3m Max.Up to 100 ft/30mMax.> than 10 ft/3m up to100 ft/30m Max.Standard polyester urethane (fuel-resistant)tubing (part number 53-001) can be usedotherwise. Use of other types of tubing maycause inaccurate and potentially dangerousreadings that could result in serious injury ordeath. For sampling using a PID sensor please referto the Application Note titled “Usage andApplications of PID sensors version B1”included with your PhD documentation orcontact customer service at 800-711-6776 torequest a copy.Do not use the NDIR CH 4sensor for the detection of hydrogen. Unlikecatalytic hot-bead LEL sensors, the NDIR CH 4sensor in the PHD6 does not respond tohydrogen. Use of the NDIR CH 4 for thedetection of hydrogen may lead to propertydamage, personal injury or even death.3.1 Manual sample draw kitThe manual sample draw kit is comprised of asample draw probe, 2 sections of tubing, asqueeze bulb and an adapter that is used to16
