Area Updates: June 2010Hickory Area By Vincent & Vallie PiccirelliGreetings to all, from Hickory!We had a great meeting with 23 in attendance. Our Drive & Dinescheduled for June 26th to Banner Elk and we have another TechSession planned for June 25th. The wine tour is planned for September19th so please make a date in your calendar, as we returnto Raffaldinies for their Italian Festival.Jim Buchanon was kind enough to bring back a picture of McDreamy,(the ladies know who I’m talking about) from the VIR Rolex Race forVallie. I have been informed that she will be going to VIR for nextyears Rolex Bosch 250 race, with or without me. Who knows if I’llever see her again? We hope to have the Goodie store back in a fewmonths and will be contacting Sadie.We had a report from Bryson and Kathy, who participated in theBoxster Summit and said they had a great time. Early birds arrive after6pm At the bar for drinks and the meeting starts at7pm. Come join us for some food, fellowship, and fun.We had our SommerFest in Charlotte in June and I hada good time. I missed the Concours but did get to participatein the Rally and Auto Cross. At the Saturdayevening banquet, I was surprised to be awarded theprestigious and just re-introduced Rally D.A.L. Award.This is an award that takes particular talents to receive.The award is the Dead Ass Last Award. I wasable to get this award because I actually turned in myscore sheet. There are some lost souls still out theretrying to make it to the finish line, but of course theywere not eligible for the award, since they never finished.We had a record turnout for the autocross and with ournew scoring equipment were able to finish all the runsbefore the arrival of the lunch pizza and the threateningthunder storm. I was knocked out of second placein my class by 0.007 seconds to my ex-DE student WillSullivan. Congratulations on beating your coach Will.The unconfirmed rumor was one guy came over fromTennessee to try to take FTD (fastest of the day) fromour own Sean and Cari Steinbrueck pair, who usuallywin that coveted position, but he broke a motor mounton his 914 on his first run and had to retire for the restof the day.
