4Cheshire and Merseyside NHS North WestVenous Access Clinical GroupTerms of ReferenceThe purpose of the group is to ensure that all nurses with relevant competencies acrossCheshire and Merseyside North West Strategic Health Authority utilise universal guidelines,competencies and training.• To act as the primary source of advice on issues relating to the care andmaintenance of venous access devices (VADs).• To ensure co-ordination and consistency across Cheshire and Merseyside NorthWest Strategic Health Authority for the implementation of policies and guidelines.• To implement consistent clinical competencies for VADs.• To collaborate with workforce and education stakeholders to ensure theavailability of the VAD training programme and facilitate ease of access forclinical staff.• To develop and implement guidelines and policies relating to the trainingprogramme.• To ensure that there is a network of support for nurses across the Cheshire andMerseyside North West Strategic Health Authority.• To ensure appropriate consultation across multi-agencies and multiprofessionalgroups.MembershipAll Hospital Trusts, Primary Care organisations and other relevant stakeholders withinCheshire and Merseyside North West Strategic Health Authority were invited to take part inthe development of these guidelines.Chair/ReportingThe chair will be a Director of Nursing from within Cheshire and Merseyside North WestStrategic Health Authority. The group will report to the Directors of Nursing Group atCheshire and Merseyside North West Strategic Health Authority.Use of the GuidelinesThis document contains several guidelines which can be utilised as required.The CINs group hereby assert their moral rights tothe works herein in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988.Policy review date 01/10/10
