Occlusion of lumen. • Maintain patency via 0.9% SodiumChloride for injection flushes as per <strong>CINS</strong>guidelines, Pre & post drug/ infusionadministration. Use heparinised saline as<strong>CINS</strong> guidelines if open ended catheter• Ensure compatibility of drugs/infusates toavoid precipitation.• Ensure weekly flushes when not in use.Use needle-free system according to<strong>CINS</strong> guidelines using positive pressureflush90Bleeding from site / lineitself.Line migration /displacementLine in situ when nolonger required.• Observe for signs of bleeding from site.• Apply pressure above dressing• Ensure add-on devices/taps securelyfastened.• Ensure clotting studies in acceptablerange prior to removal of line.• Check notes to ensure medical staff havedocumented line is in correct place andsafe to use• If line disconnected for any reason thendiscard• Check each time line accessed for signsof line migration• Anchor lines to avoid accidentaldisplacement using fixation devices as in<strong>CINS</strong> guidelines.• If in doubt do not use line and ensurepatient is aware of problems which mayoccur..Ensure prompt removal when line no longerrequired.The CINs group hereby assert their moral rights tothe works herein in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988.Policy review date 01/10/10
