Friedberg Concert Hall7:30 pmDRESS REHEARSALThe dress rehearsal for <strong>Remembering</strong> <strong>Carol</strong> Bartlett is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 from 4:00-7:00 pm. (If allgoes well, students in Levels 3, 3X, 4, <strong>and</strong> 4X might be dismissed as early as 6:30 pm.) All students must take aballet or contemporary dance technique class earlier in the day, <strong>and</strong> they will participate in rehearsal(s) prior to thedress rehearsal. Please send your child to class on Saturday with everything he or she needs for the dress rehearsal.Students will be given approximately one hour to prepare. If you would like to assist your child with hair <strong>and</strong> makeup,please arrange to do that before the rehearsal at 2:00 pm. Parents are not permitted backstage, even to assistwith hair <strong>and</strong> make-up (see Reminders below).PERFORMANCEAll students are required to take a technique class at 5:15 pm on the day of the performance. It is possible thatstudents will be called earlier to the theater on Sunday to rehearse. Students should arrive for technique classwith hair <strong>and</strong> make-up already done. They may wish to wear different tights for the class <strong>and</strong> then change intoperformance tights in the theater. There will be time to touch up hair <strong>and</strong> make-up; please send your child with abrush or comb; hairspray or gel; bobby pins or hairpins; powder, blush, <strong>and</strong> lipstick. All make-up should be markedwith your child’s name to prevent mix-ups backstage. We strongly discourage sharing make-up.REMINDERSNo parents, family members or friends are permitted backstage before, during, or after the dress rehearsal orperformance unless they are serving as an official parent volunteer. This helps us to keep your child safe bymaking sure that no unauthorized adults enter the backstage area. Complete hair <strong>and</strong> make-up should be done beforeyour child takes technique class; you will not be permitted backstage to assist with hair <strong>and</strong> make-up.GUIDELINES<strong>Costume</strong>, hair, <strong>and</strong> make-up guidelines follow below. Given the number of students involved in this performance,we have organized the guidelines by level. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact MelissaStafford, Dance Department Chair.Levels 3 <strong>and</strong> 3X<strong>Costume</strong>s: Students will wear contemporary dance dress code attire for the performance as follows:Girls must wear a black tank-style leotard with black footless tights (or tights with feet rolled up over the ankles).Black tights should be worn OVER the leotard. No underwear or undergarments may show. Students who desireextra privacy may wear a nude leotard <strong>and</strong> must pin the straps underneath the leotard so they do not show.Boys must wear a white fitted t-shirt (short-sleeve style) with black footless tights (or tights with feet rolled upover the ankles). If tights are thin, two pairs should be worn. All boys must wear a dance belt underneath their tights.Please contact Timothy Rinko-Gay, Boys Program Coordinator, if you have questions about the dress code for maledancers.<strong>Hair</strong>:Girls must pull their hair into a high ponytail secured at the crown of their head. Please use an elastic b<strong>and</strong> in aneutral color (black or brown) or one that matches your hair color. <strong>Hair</strong> must be neat; use gel or hairspray <strong>and</strong> bobbypins to secure loose hair. Bangs must be pulled in back <strong>and</strong> secured. No personal hair accessories permitted.1


All boys should arrive to the theater with their hair neatly combed <strong>and</strong>, if necessary, secured with hairspray or gel.Please make sure that bangs do not fall below the eyebrows so the face has an “open” appearance on stage.<strong>Make</strong>-<strong>Up</strong>:Girls: <strong>Make</strong>-up should be done before arriving for technique class. The purpose of make-up is to prevent yourchild’s facial features from “washing out” under the strong lighting used on stage. <strong>Make</strong>-up should accent theirnatural features rather than hide them, so please avoid bright colors, especially for blush, eye shadow <strong>and</strong>lipstick. Students only need foundation, powder, pink or peach blush, light brown eyeliner, mascara, <strong>and</strong> lightlipstick (pink or coral). Neutral eye shadow may be worn, but is not required.Boys: No make-up is required.Levels 4 <strong>and</strong> 4X<strong>Costume</strong>s: Students will wear contemporary dance dress code attire for the performance as follows:Young women must wear a black camisole-style leotard with black footless tights (or tights with feet rolled upover the ankles). Black tights should be worn OVER the leotard. Students should not bring jewelry with them to the theater; they willbe asked to take it off <strong>and</strong> leave it in the dressing room, where it could be easily lost.• No red lipstick, no dark eye shadow (such as blue, green, grey, or dark brown), <strong>and</strong> no bright blush.These hide the student’s natural features.• No nail polish on fingernails or toenails. This is st<strong>and</strong>ard practice among pre-professional dance programs.• Eyeglasses are NOT permitted on stage. Students may wear them in the dressing room <strong>and</strong> will leave themwith a backstage supervisor before entering the stage area.
