The special educationdepartment also provides NonviolentCrisis Intervention tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for school staff andfacil<strong>it</strong>ates the development of <strong>in</strong>terventionassistance teams <strong>in</strong> Ald<strong>in</strong>e schools.Career and TechnologyThe Career and Technology Education program<strong>in</strong> the Ald<strong>in</strong>e <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>School</strong> districtis a 7th to 12th grade program which offerscourses <strong>in</strong> the areas of Agriculture Science,Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Education, Career Orientation,Family and Consumer Sciences, HealthScience Technology, Market<strong>in</strong>g Education,Mil<strong>it</strong>ary Science and Leadership, TechnologyEducation, and Trade and Industrial Education.Each of these program areas offer courseswhich students may choose us<strong>in</strong>g a coherentsequence so that they will best benef<strong>it</strong> fromthe skills taught <strong>in</strong> those courses.Several of the Career and TechnologyEducation program areas offer students certificationsor licensures after complet<strong>in</strong>g therequired cred<strong>it</strong>s and/or satisfactorily complet<strong>in</strong>ga certification test. Some of thesecertificates/licenses <strong>in</strong>clude Cosmetology,Emergency Medical Technician, CertifiedNurs<strong>in</strong>g Assistant, Lucent TechnologyCertification, Pace Electronics Certification,A+ Certification, Microsoft Office Specialist,ServSafe, Wheels of Learn<strong>in</strong>g Certificationfor carpentry, weld<strong>in</strong>g, and air cond<strong>it</strong>ion<strong>in</strong>g,CISCO Certification for network<strong>in</strong>g, andNATEF Certification for automotive services.Dual cred<strong>it</strong>, articulated cred<strong>it</strong>, youth apprenticeship,career preparation, and <strong>in</strong>ternshipopportun<strong>it</strong>ies are offered through theCareer and Technology Education program.Hosp<strong>it</strong>al<strong>it</strong>y Services (hotel), Health ScienceTechnology Rotations (medical), and CareerPreparation (cooperative) are a few of the<strong>School</strong>-to-Work programs offered.Visual ArtsThe elementary andsecondary scienceprogram consists ofan <strong>in</strong>-depth study ofscientific pr<strong>in</strong>ciples.The Ald<strong>in</strong>e ISD Visual Art program provides aqual<strong>it</strong>y, sequential and cumulative art programfor all students, pre-K<strong>in</strong>dergarten throughgrade 12. Students <strong>in</strong> the Visual Arts have theopportun<strong>it</strong>y to participate <strong>in</strong> various exhib<strong>it</strong>sand contests throughout the year <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g theScholastic Art & Wr<strong>it</strong><strong>in</strong>g Awards, Youth ArtMonth, PTA Reflections, Visual Arts ScholasticEvent, Harris County Fair Future Artists ofAmerica Program, and Houston Livestock Show& Rodeo <strong>School</strong> Arts Compet<strong>it</strong>ion. Studentartwork has been featured <strong>in</strong> state adoptedtextbooks, <strong>School</strong> Arts magaz<strong>in</strong>e, Arts& Activ<strong>it</strong>ies magaz<strong>in</strong>e, Seventeen, Reader’sDigest, Scholastic magaz<strong>in</strong>e, and numerousother periodicals and art books. In add<strong>it</strong>ion totwo-dimensional and three-dimensional studio,students study perceptual awareness, arthistory from the pre-historic to the contemporary,art cr<strong>it</strong>icism, aesthetic awareness andgeneral art appreciation.New programs <strong>in</strong>clude Electronic Media,Media Arts (film and video), and AdvancedPlacement Art History, Studio and Draw<strong>in</strong>g.Perform<strong>in</strong>g ArtsThe Ald<strong>in</strong>e <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> providesa perform<strong>in</strong>g arts educational programwhich gives students, regardless of abil<strong>it</strong>y,the opportun<strong>it</strong>y to develop his or her ownunique artistic talents. Students acquire anunderstand<strong>in</strong>g as well as an appreciation ofmulti-cultural music and other arts, through avariety of enriched artistic experiences.The perform<strong>in</strong>g arts curriculum emphasizesthe development of students’ creative capabil<strong>it</strong>ies,growth <strong>in</strong> knowledge and skills relat<strong>in</strong>gto his or her particular artistic endeavor,the unfold<strong>in</strong>g of aesthetic awareness, and the<strong>in</strong>tegration of academic and social skills.The Kodàly method, along w<strong>it</strong>h TexasEssential Knowledge and Skills, is the curriculumimplemented <strong>in</strong> the elementary musicprogram. Intermediate, middle, and highschool perform<strong>in</strong>g arts directors implementTexas Essential Knowledge and Skills.The district’s thirteen magnet school academiesemphasize the perform<strong>in</strong>g arts <strong>in</strong> suchareas as Suzuki str<strong>in</strong>g and piano classes,advanced dance, theatre arts, and musicclasses from pre-k<strong>in</strong>dergarten to high school.The perform<strong>in</strong>g arts organizations presentconcerts, plays, musicals, and dance rec<strong>it</strong>alsthroughout the school year. Well attended,these organizations give our commun<strong>it</strong>y anopportun<strong>it</strong>y to observe and support the studentsat their best.17
