Volunteerism – Making a Difference
in People’s Lives
On April 21st, the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King will once again
hold its annual Volunteer Recognition Day, a special day to thank all
those who volunteer their time and talents to enhance the lives of our
members of the Home.
This year, close to 370 volunteers will be honored. The number of
volunteer hours over the past year totals over 40,000 hours.
There are so many dedicated individuals and groups committed to
giving so much of themselves to help others. There are staff members
who go above and beyond what they do in their everyday work. There
are members of veterans organizations who help out where needed at
the Home, even by gathering funds for such items as electric shavers
for residents. And, there are members who serve as volunteers to help
each other.
Whether it’s taking time to help someone with a small task like reading
or writing a letter or pushing a wheelchair, it is greatly appreciated
by our members, their families, and by everyone at the Home and the
