opportunities <strong>for</strong> direct hires. In addition, veterans can receive in<strong>for</strong>m<strong>at</strong>ion about<br />
st<strong>at</strong>e and federal benefits.<br />
“It is heartening to see th<strong>at</strong> in these challenging economic times, employment<br />
opportunities not only exist <strong>for</strong> veterans, but th<strong>at</strong> a team of experts has come together<br />
to provide the opportunities <strong>for</strong> our most deserving citizens,” said Mike Rohan,<br />
AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer <strong>at</strong> the American Legion Auxiliary in Portage.<br />
Local County Veteran Service Offices, along with the Employer Support of the<br />
Guard & Reserve Program (ESGR), are also partnering in the job fairs and will be in<br />
<strong>at</strong>tendance to provide benefit in<strong>for</strong>m<strong>at</strong>ion to both veterans and employers who <strong>at</strong>tend.<br />
“If you are a veteran looking <strong>for</strong> a job, or will need assistance in the future with<br />
upd<strong>at</strong>ing your resume, improving your job interview skills, finding employment, or<br />
just obtaining benefit in<strong>for</strong>m<strong>at</strong>ion, then come to a job fair,” DWD Office of <strong>Veterans</strong><br />
Services Director Ken Grant said. “If you are an employer and have a current vacancy,<br />
or may be hiring in the future, and you are looking <strong>for</strong> an individual with skills,<br />
someone who knows wh<strong>at</strong> teamwork and dedic<strong>at</strong>ion is all about, then come to the<br />
job fair and hire a Vet.”<br />

St<strong>at</strong>e News<br />
For over three decades, spring has been ushered in with 32,000 blooming tulips <strong>at</strong> the<br />
<strong>Wisconsin</strong> St<strong>at</strong>e Capitol. The flowers fill 28 flower beds adorning 13.5 acres of the Capitol<br />
grounds. The tulips are Darwin Hybrids from the Netherlands and represent many different<br />
colors. Each May, the bulbs are removed and replaced with a different design of flowers<br />
keeping the Capitol Square in bloom until October when the tulips bulbs are planted again.<br />
There is one extra special garden, a circular flower bed which honors Gold Star Mothers,<br />
mothers who have lost a son or daughter in service to the United St<strong>at</strong>es. Since 1922, the<br />
Capitol grounds have been home to a floral tribute of a golden star blossoming in spring and<br />
throughout the garden season.
