DPI&F generallyinvestigates and polices routine matters with the Water Police responsible for the investigation <strong>of</strong>serious incidents. Dept <strong>of</strong> State Development & Innovation (DSDI) control assets such as boatramps. Dept <strong>of</strong> Transport (DoT) now acts in an advisory capacity to DSDI due to experience withboat ramp installation and maintenance etc. Pontoons (s 86 <strong>of</strong> the Act) are still the responsibility<strong>of</strong> DoT, although a pontoon attached to the bank is deemed to be the responsibility <strong>of</strong> Council, orother landowning body. DoT still has to review pontoon placement to ensure there is noobstruction to water traffic. The maximum speed limit for Ross River waters between Aplin’s Weirand Black Weir is 6 knots for all motorised ships, as defined by regulations at 27/11/98.DPI&F administers the Act and subordinate legislation which defines allowable fishing activitiesincluding the type <strong>of</strong> equipment that can be used, type and number <strong>of</strong> fish to be taken andseasonal closures.Twin Cities Fish Stocking Society (TCFSS) is the body with the permit to release native fish intothe weirs in accord with their management plan. TCFSS is also a member <strong>of</strong> the Fish WatchAdvisory Committee, a group formed to promote sustainable recreational fishing across theregion.10
