Limerick County Council Annual Report 2005COUNTY ARTS OFFICEPerhaps the two key words underpinning the artsprogramme of 2005 were partnership and diversity.The spring season opened with a very successful seriesof lectures on “Limerick’s Built Heritage.” With theobjective of raising awareness of the county’s richarchitectural heritage, the series was collaborativelyorganised by the Arts, Archaeology, Planning andCommunity & Enterprise Sections of the Council.A full calendar of exhibitions, a multi-disciplinary artsprogramme for eleven primary schools, our annualliterary festival Eigse Michael Hartnett, provided anever-changing backdrop to a number of new initiatives.The Arts Office and the Health Service Executivejointly engaged Artist/puppeteer Helen Hugel, towork in the “Ark”, the children’s wing of the RegionalHospital, Dooradoyle. Helene created with the sickchildren, colourful puppets and imaginary play objectsfrom everyday hospital equipment such as syringes,thermometers etc.Bríd Bradshaw, County Arts Office, with childrenfrom Ballybrown N.S. participating in the Council’sArtist in Schools ProgrammeIn partnership with the County VEC, a series ofintroductory art classes for mature adults wasorganised in Castleconnell. Facilitated by artist BarbaraHartigan, the classes have afforded people a firsttime opportunity to explore and be creative with artmaterials.With county dancer Mary Hartney, an integrated danceprogramme has been implemented in RathfredaghCheshire Home. Integrated dance is about people ofall physical abilities creating and performing dance.This innovative dance project includes transition yearstudents from the local post-primary school and theresidents of Rathfredagh.Colourful sock puppets made from hospitalmaterialsTen organisations and individuals were awarded grantsunder the Arts Act 1973. With revised criteria applyingto the grants, the awards varied in value from €700to € 1500. The Council’s Arts Organisation Bursary, anaward of €3000 was made to Summer Music on theShannon, with the Individual Bursary going to PaulDunworth to assist with his musical studies in London.Introductory Art Classes - Castleconnell45
