N. Topic sentences<br />
a. Topic sentences are very useful for organising paragraphs. They tell the reader what the<br />
paragraph is about. What is the topic sentence for the paragraph on page 9?<br />
b. Look at the sentences. Which one is a good topic sentence for a paragraph to describe<br />
somebody? Why? Decide with your partner.<br />
e.g. a) He is one of the most handsome boys in our class.<br />
b) Soe Reh is one of the most handsome boys in our class.<br />
b) is a better topic sentence, because it tells us who the paragraph will be about.<br />
Look at these pairs of sentences. Which are better topic sentences?<br />
1 a) My mother is a smart person.<br />
b) She is smart.<br />
