Donors may name thescholarship and set forth recipient guidelines.Young Scientists ScholarshipEstablished in 2004, this 8-week program gives highschool students an opportunity to work on cuttingedgescience education that provides numerouseducational and career-related opportunities toshape and guide their future. High school-agestudents with an interest in science are selected andreferred by their respective schoolf a c u l t y. Once accepted intothe program, students spend four to six hours perweek on projects ranging from tissue culture, cellb i o l o g y, immunology and molecular genetics, to theoperation of robotic laboratory equipment. Thegoal of this important program is to make studentsaware of the technology and methodologyresearchers encounter on a daily basis. Exposure tothese types of science enrichment experiences aredesigned to encourage students to pursue careers inscience and medical related fields and provide astrong foundation for future collegiate studies.Twenty Tampa-area students have experienced thisunique learning program; all 20 students arecurrently completing their college educationin medicine, veterinary medicine, scienceundergraduate and/or postgraduate studies.Annual scholarship for one student: $4,000Total annual need: $20,000" 2 4

Highly skilled research teamsconduct laboratory work committed to findingbetter ways to treat seriously ill children and adultson a daily basis. Current research includes:• Early stage Hodgkin’s disease protocol which isthe basis for some of the protocols currently usedin the United States, Canada and theNetherlands• Studying the molecular genetics of variouspediatric cancers• Evaluation of various factors in the treatmentof hemophilia enabling us to provide ourhemophilia patients with the latest cutting-edgemedicine• Examining chemotherapy drugs on cancerouscells in test tubes for a better understanding oftheir effectiveness• The only FDA-approved trial for SIR-Spheres whichslow down the progression of breast cancer that hasmetastasized to the liver.For information about supporting researchinitiatives, please contact us.Tampa Care Clinic (HIV Care)Tampa Care Clinic seeks to serve the HIV communitywith quality, seamless and comprehensive care. TheClinic provides disease management for adultsinfected with HIV in a comfortable outpatientambulatory care setting. Based on a philosophy thatavoidance of hospitalization and optimal health isachieved through preventive care, health educationand in collaboration with other communityresources and local physicians, patients are off e r e deducation, counseling services, assistance inaccessing community resources, nutritionalassessments and health screenings. Additionalservices include HIV testing, participation in clinicaltrials, acupuncture, reiki and neuromuscularmassage. Donations to the Foundation will helpunderwrite the new clinic by providing necessaryresources for equipment and other patient services.Total need: $25,000" 2 5
