ic & educationSummer placements for civil students土 木 工 程 及 建 築 專 業 暑 期 實 習 計 劃In the summer of 2009, with greatsupport from our industrial partnersin the construction industry, around60 first year higher diploma students ofthe Department of Civil and StructuralEngineering of PolyU joined WorkIntegrated Learning (WIL) placementprogramme organized by the IC toexperience real work environment inconstruction industry. Students wereassigned to work as trainees in designoffices or construction sites of thepartnering companies for three to sixweeks over the period from June toAugust 2009. IC training supervisorskept close communication with thepartnering companies and students byvisiting the students in their workplacesregularly and talking to his/her immediateindustrial supervisors to understandtheir learning progress and difficultiesencountered.We express our gratitude to ourpartnering companies which offeredwork placements to the students in thelast summer. The eleven companiesparticipated in the programme wereAble Engineering Company Limited,Excel Engineering Company Limited,Freyssinet Hong Kong Limited, HangYue Engineering Limited, Hing FuEngineering Limited, Hilti Hong KongLimited, Yau Lee Construction CompanyLimited, A-tech LF & Associates Limited,AECOM Environment Hong Kong,Leadtops Raymond Limited and PetrosConsulting Engineers Limited.The placement programme aimed atenhancing the students’ developmentof professional knowledge and genericskills through work exposure andexperience by engaging in real projectsin the construction industry. Apart fromprofessional abilities, students wereexpected to notice the importance ofgeneric skills and personal attributesanticipated by the industry. At thecompletion of the placement, traineeswould submit a training report and sharehis/her work experience with peers in apresentation. In addition, the immediatesupervisors of the partnering companieswere invited to give brief comments on theperformance of the trainees. Very often,we found very encouraging reflectionsgiven by the students that they valuedthe real work experience very much.Most of them appreciated that good skillsin communication, teamwork, problemsolving,planning and organizing areessential for a successful engineer intheir future career.業 中 心 獲 得 建 築 業 界 多 間 合工 作 夥 伴 的 支 持 , 在 2009 年 暑期 推 出 了 校 企 協 作 學 習 實 習 計 劃 ,為 理 大 土 木 及 結 構 工 程 學 系 高 級 文憑 一 年 級 學 生 提 供 了 約 60 個 實 習名 額 , 讓 學 生 透 過 實 習 了 解 土 木 工程 及 建 築 行 業 的 實 際 工 作 環 境 及 情況 。 參 與 的 學 生 在 六 月 至 八 月 期 間獲 派 往 其 中 一 間 夥 伴 公 司 實 習 三 至六 星 期 不 等 , 實 習 地 點 包 括 辦 公 室及 工 地 。 實 習 期 間 , 工 業 中 心 的 導師 親 自 拜 訪 每 一 間 夥 伴 公 司 及 探 訪學 生 , 了 解 他 們 的 實 習 情 況 及 遇 到的 困 難 。是 次 實 習 計 劃 共 得 到 11 間 企 業 的 支持 , 包 括 : 安 保 工 程 有 限 公 司 、 怡益 工 程 有 限 公 司 、 輝 力 香 港 有 限 公司 、 恒 裕 建 設 工 程 有 限 公 司 、 興 富工 程 有 限 公 司 、 喜 利 得 ( 香 港 ) 有 限公 司 、 有 利 建 築 有 限 公 司 、 基 達 工程 顧 問 有 限 公 司 、 安 社 亞 洲 ( 香 港 )有 限 公 司 、 力 特 斯 綜 合 設 計 及 項 目管 理 顧 問 以 及 磐 石 顧 問 工 程 師 有 限公 司 。工 業 中 心 舉 辦 該 實 習 計 劃 的 目 的 ,是 希 望 通 過 在 業 界 實 習 的 寶 貴 機 會來 強 化 土 木 工 程 及 建 築 專 業 學 生 的學 術 理 論 、 專 業 知 識 及 多 元 技 能 ,擴 闊 眼 界 及 汲 取 實 際 工 作 經 驗 。 除專 業 技 能 和 知 識 外 , 中 心 亦 希 望 學生 能 夠 明 白 要 立 足 社 會 和 業 界 , 具備 廣 博 知 識 和 優 秀 個 人 素 質 是 非 常重 要 的 。 實 習 完 結 前 , 學 生 需 要 完成 一 份 實 習 報 告 , 並 與 其 他 同 學 分享 實 習 經 驗 。 夥 伴 企 業 公 司 亦 會 就學 生 在 實 習 期 間 的 工 作 表 現 給 予 意見 和 評 價 。 參 與 實 習 活 動 的 學 生 均表 示 獲 益 良 多 , 尤 其 在 人 際 溝 通 、團 隊 合 作 、 解 決 困 難 、 策 劃 和 統 籌能 力 等 方 面 , 都 能 協 助 他 們 日 後 成為 成 功 的 工 程 師 。students’ feedback:“…I had learnt a lot of knowledge outside the book.
