In the NewsNDSAP WORKSHOP CONDUCTED FOR DATA CONTROLLERS BY NICNIC conducted one DayWorkshop on October 5,2012 for implementationof National Data Sharingand Accessibility Policy (NDSAP).Nodal officers (Data Controllers) ofseveral ministries and departmentswere invited. A briefing on theNDSAP policy and a walk through ofthe portal and workflow forsubmission of data was providedduring this workshop. Data Portal,India has been set up athttp://www.data.gov.in withworkflow based backend, to enablepublishing of datasets by DataControllers. These datasets wouldessentially relate to various ministriesand government departments.The workshop started with awelcome address by Director Generalof NIC and a keynote address bySecretary, DeitY. An overview wasgiven on Open Data policy followedby its importance and itsimplementation steps. In using thisopen source method of development,the Open Government Platform(OGPL) community will providefuture technology enhancements, opengovernment solutions, andcommunity-based technical support.Through this medium, governmentwill be able to engage in social mediaand can react to public reaction onissues of public interest.Dr. R Siva Kumar from Departmentof Science & Technology presented theexperience of the department, and thecurrent usage. Ms. Neeta Verma (Sr.TD, NIC) mentioned that the datasetson Open Data can be used, re-usedand re-distributed. The data formatsused are independent and does notrequire proprietary software. Theportal was showcased and the variousfeatures which were user friendly andhow it would enable greaterparticipation from general public wereput forth. She indicated that there werealready close to 70 unique requests fordata that were received in just less than10 days, which depicts the interestshown to this initiative by generalpublic.The workshop also involved thepresentations by data controllers, Dr.L. Harendupralkash from Departmentof Earth Sciences, and Sh. P.C.Mohanan from Department ofStatistics and ProgrammeImplementation, Ms. MadhuriSharma, Dr. Harendupralkash, Shri.Mohanan, Ms. Madhuri Sharma,It was followed by a walk through onpublishing of datasets on Data Portalby Ms. Alka Mishra & Mr D.P. Mishrafrom NIC. Ms. Verma also discussedNDSAP policy and formation ofNDSAP cells under the controllers ofeach ministry, department. ChiefSecretary Haryana Sh. .K.Chaudharycongratulated SIO Haryana Sh.G.S.Bansal for receiving this prestigiousaward.In the NewsManav SampdaDistrict JhalawarDynamic Integration ofProperty RegistrationINFORMATION KIOSKSLAUNCHED IN UT CHANDIGARHTheChandigarhAdministration haslaunched informationkiosks for checking vehicleregistration number availability andfor providing tourist information hereon 31st October 2012. The informationkiosks were formally inaugurated byMr. K K Sharma, Adviser to theAdministrator, UT. One meant forproviding information on availabilityMr. K K Sharma, Adviser to Administrator UTChandigarh inaugurates the information Kiosksof vehicle registration number andanother, Tourist Information Kiosk,provides information on Chandigarh,hotels etc.Vehicle registration numberavailability kiosk would enable theresidents to check the availability ofthe vehicle registration number. Thesoftware for the kiosk has beendeveloped by the NIC-UTChandigarh. The kiosk will beoperating at Registering & LicensingAuthority in Sector 17. The touchscreen kiosk would enable people tolearn about the availability ofregistration numbers of their choice inthe ongoing as well as previous series.The kiosk would make it convenientfor the general public to choose thevehicle registration number, he added.The second kiosk is the TourismInformation Kiosk which providesinformation on Chandigarh, hotels,tourist attractions, restaurants, etc. Thiskiosk would be placed at the UT GuestHouse. Secretary Tourism Mr D KTiwari, IAS said the TourismDepartment would assess the needs ofthe tourists coming to Chandigarh toenhance the utility of the TourismInformation Kiosk. Ms Prerna Puri,IAS Secretary, InformationTechnology, said Department ofInformation Technology is alsoconsidering the use of kiosks forproviding various other services invarious public institutions such asgovernment hospitals.
