MYP Field TripsDear Parents,At the beginning <strong>of</strong> each school year, ISP arranges a number <strong>of</strong> curricular-based field trips. These trips form apart <strong>of</strong> our teaching and learning, and so are compulsory for all students as part <strong>of</strong> the MYP Programme. Thisyear, the Grades 6 to 10 field trips will be from Monday, September 22 to Friday, September 26,2014. The teacher-student ratio on the excursions is at least 1 to 10.Grade 11 IB Diploma students will be in school, as usual, for a week <strong>of</strong> study dedicated to Theory <strong>of</strong> Knowledgeand the Extended Essay. Grade 12 students will be in France and Switzerland on an IB Diploma field trip.The aims <strong>of</strong> the Grade 6-10 MYP field trips are• To give new students in each Grade a chance to get to know each other, make friends and expressthemselves;• To give all students an opportunity to experience an aspect <strong>of</strong> French culture and France as their hostcountry;• To introduce the components (Global Contexts) <strong>of</strong> the Middle Years Programme;• To introduce fieldwork and classroom activities for the subjects they will study as part <strong>of</strong> the MYP.Included here is all the information you will need concerning each field trip.In this document you will find• Names <strong>of</strong> the field trip leaders, and emergency contact numbers;• General advice and regulations that apply to ALL trips;• Specific details about your child’s excursion; and• Permission/consent forms to be signed and returned to school.Finally, should there be any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s excursionleader for clarification.Sincerely,Barry MansfieldSecondary <strong>School</strong> Principal


Please note that all MYP field trips leave <strong>Paris</strong> on Monday, September 22 and students will return onFriday, September 26.Parental PermissionTo participate in the field trips, all students must sign and return the MYP Field Trip Permission Form, whichcan be found at the end <strong>of</strong> this document. It can also be downloaded from the Parent Portal <strong>of</strong> the ISPwebsite. Please return this form to Ms. Hilda Tormos in Beethoven 6 no later than Monday, September 15.Students who do not return the permission form before this date will not be able to join their field trip.Health, Medication and DietThe school will check that we have each student’s current medical form, and this will allow us to ensure thateach child’s health and safety are paramount. It is most important that parents/guardians notify us if thereis any information not included in our records; this might include any recent change in your child’s health(such as the development <strong>of</strong> an allergy) or any recent or current prescription for medication.• Medication Grades 6-8: On the day <strong>of</strong> the trip, parents/guardians <strong>of</strong> any student taking medicationshould pass the medication, in a clear plastic bag with the child’s name clearly visible, to the TeamLeader. A copy <strong>of</strong> the prescription must be included.• Medication Grades 9-10: Parents/guardians <strong>of</strong> any student taking medication should inform theTeam Leader, in writing, <strong>of</strong> the details <strong>of</strong> the medication and the prescription. The Team Leader or theparent/guardian has the discretion to ask that the school look after and administer any medication.Should a student have any special dietary requirements, they should include the information on the Field TripPermission Form.Valuables and MoneyStudents should not bring any items that are valuable, irreplaceable, fragile, or unnecessary: items <strong>of</strong> thisnature (including music players, cameras, game consoles) are brought at the student’s own risk. Allstudents will need a little spending money. However, please do not bring more money than advised by yourteam leader, and certainly do not bring bank or credit cards.Clothing and EquipmentYou will find included a list <strong>of</strong> recommended clothing and equipment: it is most important that you read thiscarefully, and ensure that you are well-prepared for the field trip. Parents will be asked to verify thattheir child is properly clothed and equipped for their trip.End <strong>of</strong> Trip: Student DismissalPlease ensure that you are available to collect your child on September 26 when the trip returnsto <strong>Paris</strong>. When each trip returns, students will only be released into the care <strong>of</strong> their parent or guardianunless the attached Release Form has been completed, signed, and returned to the Team Leader.If parents/guardians do not return this form, we will expect them to collect their child(ren).Please note that our trips will return in the later afternoon and into the evening <strong>of</strong> September 26.


Student Code <strong>of</strong> ConductParents and students should read through the following Code <strong>of</strong> Conduct.The <strong>International</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Paris</strong> expects all students to abide by the ISP rules and regulations and conductthemselves on field trips with maturity and respect for others as well as for the environment around them.Failure to do so jeopardizes future field trips for themselves and for other students. In addition to this generalexpectation, there are specific policies on a number <strong>of</strong> important issues.Go to1. Safety is paramount. Field trip participants must follow all safety rules and regulations indicated by thetrip leader. A student who willfully endangers the safety and welfare <strong>of</strong> him/herself or another will berequired to leave the field trip and return home at the student’s own expense.2. Alcohol is not permitted on field trips. Students who violate this rule will be required to leave the fieldtrip and return home at the student’s own expense.3. Tobacco use <strong>of</strong> any kind is prohibited.4. Field trip leaders will establish rules for specific trips and will make the final decision regarding whetherany proposed activity is appropriate. Participants will be expected to comply with all rules establishedby the trip leader.5. Students/Parents are required to check the medical form and emergency information details andensure the field trip leader is aware <strong>of</strong> any special health conditions and medical needs.6. Parents must ensure that they or a designated guardian/s are available in <strong>Paris</strong> in case <strong>of</strong> a medicalemergency or the student being sent home.7. In the event <strong>of</strong> an accident, ISP staff will provide remedial first aid measures. Anything beyond this willbe referred immediately to the French medical services - the SAMU, Sapeurs-Pompiers, a “médecingénéraliste” (general practitioner) or hospital. The river itself <strong>of</strong>fers exceptionalbiological diversity as well as historical and culturalwealth (castles, gardens, architecture, wines). Thispart <strong>of</strong> the river flows through two regions, Centreand Pays de la Loire.cycling around the picturesque Chambord Castle.As well as exploring the history and impressivecastle architecture <strong>of</strong> the region, the students willget to enjoy physical activities such as high ropes,cycling, free time for football, basketball and tabletennis,and bowling. The night time activities willinclude film nights, indoor bowling, drama andteam building activities, and a dance/talentevening.ProgramDuring the trip students will be exploring thestunning sights <strong>of</strong> the Loire valley. The programmehas been up-dated every year in order to try andget the best from the region in terms <strong>of</strong> sightseeingand fun-filled activities. We will becontinuing some <strong>of</strong> the old favourite activities suchas guided tours in famous local castles, visitingLeonardo da Vinci’s home Clos Lucé (full <strong>of</strong> hisinventions and creations), a boat trip down theriver Cher under the Chenonceau castle, and


AccommodationWe will be staying at the Association CRJS de Blois, a youth hostel and activities center that has been used byISP for a number <strong>of</strong> years. It is adequately equipped for living and educational purposes and there is spaceoutside the buildings for recreation and sports. Girls and boys will be on different floors with teachers stayingon each floor. Students will be placed in rooms with 3 beds and each room has its own bathroom. Studentswill be expected to help clear the tables after breakfast and dinner and to keep their rooms tidy.Activities and Links with MYPThe trip aims to bring several MYP disciplines and themes into play:• In humanities class, students will be studying the European Renaissance and learning about Leonardoda Vinci, Catherine de Medici, Anne de Bretagne, François I, and other historical figures who lived in thecastles we will be visiting.• Students will be encouraged to find and draw or photograph Renaissance architectural examples <strong>of</strong>perspective for their art class.• Science and geography themes about the environment will be addressed through an educational guidedvisit <strong>of</strong> the Futuroscope Park.• Evening activities will focus on community team building games, as well as a tower building competitionand other creative design technology activities.• PSE/Team building. One <strong>of</strong> the main aims <strong>of</strong> the trip will be for all the students to get to know oneanother, for new friendships to be forged or existing ones to become stronger. We willtravel from <strong>Paris</strong> by train.For the most part <strong>of</strong> our visit, we will be exploringthe largest regional nature park in Europe: TheAuvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park. As thename suggests, the park is for the most partvolcanic and comprises <strong>of</strong> five mountainousregions which all have particular characteristics.During our outdoor visits an experienced and fullyqualified guide will accompany us.For more general info on the Auvergne region, youmay visit the following site:http://www.auvergne-tourisme.info/.AccommodationActivities and links with MYPOur center is the village-club Le Grand Panorama. Students will be expected to help clear thetables after breakfast and dinner, keep their rooms tidy, and be in their rooms and quiet at22:30.The aim <strong>of</strong> the Grade 8 trip is to create team building activities with the help <strong>of</strong> the MYP curriculum. We will• Have social interaction, as well as an educational trip• Introduce the MYP program, and Global Contexts• Do cross-curricular activities• Discover the local culture and geography <strong>of</strong> AuvergneWe will have several different activities during the week; hiking, visit <strong>of</strong> a volcanic center, kayaking, biking,archery, visit <strong>of</strong> a cheese factory and disco night among them.

It is an exceptional area <strong>of</strong>natural beauty, with three distinct geological zones, which are reflected in the variety <strong>of</strong> landscape, soils, floraand fauna found in a relatively small area. Recognized for its exceptional biodiversity, in 1984, this NationalPark was also designated a World Biosphere Reserve.AccommodationThe Eagle’s Nest Centre is situated at 1314m — about the height <strong>of</strong> Ben Nevis! While we are in the south <strong>of</strong>France, we can experience quite variable weather conditions at any time <strong>of</strong> the year.Girls and boys will have separate rooms in separate buildings and will be placed in rooms <strong>of</strong> 6 or morestudents. The centre has a number <strong>of</strong> rules, which will be explained to the students on their arrival. They willbe expected to help clear the tables after each meal, keep their rooms tidy and be in their rooms and be quietat 23:00.


Activities and links with MYPThe aim <strong>of</strong> the Grade 9 trip is to create team building activities covering the MYP curriculum through twomajor subjects, which are geography and science. Students will be divided in groups and will undertake riversand sewage studies. Seignosse is known as a warm andsunny place on the coast, especially in September.AccommodationOur center is the village-club Louis Forestier (www.louisforestier.com). The accommodations are safe andadequately equipped for educational purposes. Our center is 400m away from the ocean at Les Estagnots,which is a quiet, famous beach spot, always supervised by lifeguards. We will also be able to use a swimmingpool for our first aid lessons; for relaxing free time, there are soccer and volleyball pitches and a “pétanque”area.Girls and boys will have separate rooms in separate buildings and will be placed in rooms <strong>of</strong> 4 students. Eachroom has its own bathroom. Students will be expected to help clear the tables after breakfast and dinner, keeptheir rooms tidy, and be in their rooms and quiet at 22:30.Activities and links with MYPThe aim <strong>of</strong> the Grade 10 trip is to create team-building activities with the help <strong>of</strong> the MYP curriculum throughtwo major subjects; personal and social education (PSE) and physical education (PE). Other activities will beused to complete our program, linking with art, dance, social studies and the community. We want students tolearn about French culture, but they will also be given an introduction to Hawaiian culture (sports, arts, cultureand geography). Students will be taught techniques to improve their fitness and team spirit, and they will buildand practice lifesaving skills both in the water and on land. Grade 10 team will mainly be using “personal andcultural expression” as the MYP Global Context for this trip. Various entertainment and activities (ballroom andzumba dances, disco, and haka) will take place every evening.
