<strong>NBE</strong> <strong>CME</strong> <strong>programme</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>DNB</strong> <strong>consultants</strong>IntroductionThe <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> of Examination was established in 1975 with the primary objective of improvingthe quality of the Medical Education by elevating the level and establishing standards of postgraduate examinations in modern medicine, on an all India basis. There are more than 650accredited hospitals/institutions, imparting <strong>DNB</strong> courses in 58 medical specialties. The presentworkshop has been designed to enhance the competencies of the participants in the area of bedside teaching, research methodology and thesis protocol writing and evaluation of <strong>DNB</strong> coursesso that they are able to play more effective role in training of <strong>DNB</strong> candidates in their respectiveaccredited hospitals.General ObjectiveTo enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants so that they are able to improve the bedside teaching, thesis research and evaluation <strong>for</strong> <strong>DNB</strong> candidatesSpecific ObjectivesAfter the workshop the participants should be able to :‣ Describe skills <strong>for</strong> bed side teaching of <strong>DNB</strong> candidates such as case presentation, wardrounds, viva on spots, X-rays etc‣ Discuss how to select topic <strong>for</strong> <strong>DNB</strong> thesis, write protocol and guide the research work <strong>for</strong>their thesis‣ Develop short structured questions, MCQs, and describe methods <strong>for</strong> assessment ofclinical skills <strong>for</strong> <strong>DNB</strong> candidates.Main Content Areas‣ Planning and organisation of long and short cases presentations <strong>for</strong> <strong>DNB</strong> candidates‣ Planning and organisation of ward rounds <strong>for</strong> clinical specialities.‣ Planning and organisation of spots ( X-rays, Instruments etc).‣ Selection of topic and writing thesis protocol.‣ Supervision and guidance of thesis research work.‣ Ethical issues in research‣ Development of short structured questions‣ Development of MCQs‣ Skills of an effective examiner‣ Planning and organisation <strong>for</strong> theory and practical examinationDuration2daysMethodologyThe participants would be divided into smaller groups speciality wise and would be providedwith relevant reading materials and exercises <strong>for</strong> various sessions by the group facilitator. Theywould complete the exercises individually and would make presentation to the group facilitator inthe group. The orientation to basic concepts would be done through discussion by facilitators ingroups.Category & Number of participantsThe <strong>consultants</strong> and faculty members from <strong>NBE</strong> accredited hospitals/ institutions.
