Febrile Seizures Background • Seizures that occur in febrile children that do not have intracranial infection, metabolic disturbance or history of afebrile seizures • Typically occurs at 6-60 months; peak: 14-18 months • Affects 2-5% of children in the US • Generally excellent prognosis, few sequelae • 1/3 with first febrile seizure will have recurrence • Fever reducing medications have not been shown to prevent febrile seizures
