Logistical planning begins at the sametime as tactical planning and continues concurrently throughoutthe planning sequence.d. Simplicity is the guiding principle in the preparation of airmobile operational plans.24. Planning Technique, Aviation Unit Commandera. The aviation unit commander works in close coordinationwith the airmobile force commander. Each must be made awareof all aspects of the other's planning. (See also paragraph 12.)b. As soon as the aviation unit commander is informed of theairmobile force commander's scheme of maneuver, he can(1) Advise and assist in air movement planning.(2) Designate flight leaders and the units to be supported byeach.(3) Determine the composition of flights.(4) Inform the members of his unit of the location of loadingsites, landing zones and sites, and refueling facilities.(5) Plan for refueling.(6) Prepare a schedule for the movement to the loading area.(7) Plan and coordinate rendezvous points for guide aircraft,if required, to lead the aerial vehicles to loading areas orready areas.25. Aircraft RequirementsThe number of aircraft required is determined for each mission.The types of aircraft available and their allowable cargo loads arethe major factors. The load-carrying capabilities of helicoptersvary according to altitude, humidity, and temperature (par. 17a).TM <strong>57</strong>-210 and <strong>FM</strong> 101-10 contain information on aircraft capabilities which is suitable for initial planning. The aviation unitcommander must be consulted for actual operational capabilities.26. GeneralSection II. INTELLIGENCESince airmobile operations are conducted in furtherance of theground effort, the current intelligence situation and intelligenceestimate of the unit are used in planning.
