This time, the Rockets took careof business, defeating Temple, 36-13, in the Mid-AmericanConference opener for both teams.A week after a 33-30 overtime loss at Syracuse, a gamewhose outcome hinged on a missed extra point by the Orangethat was ruled good by the officials, the Rockets forcedfour turnovers and used a smothering defense to defeat aTemple team that was one week removed from a 38-7 winat Maryland.Senior RB Morgan Williams, substituting for injuredAll-MAC RB Adonis Thomas, rushed for 121 yards andone touchdown. Junior Austin Dantin went most of the wayat quarterback, completing 12-of-14 passes for 115 yardsand one score. He also had a one-yard rushing TD. Moreimportantly, Dantin and the Rocket offense played virtuallyerror-free football. Sophomore RB David Fluellen scoredtwo times, once on the ground and once on a pass reception.Toledo’s defense did a great job on Temple’s junior All-MAC RB Bernard Pierce, holding him to just 75 yards on24 carries (3.1 average) and no touchdowns. Pierce, whoscored five TDs vs. Maryland to give him a national-leading12 on the season, entered the game as the MAC’s leadingrusher, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Junior LB RobertBell led the way with 12 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and afumble recovery. Junior defensive end T.J .Fatinikun hadthree tackles for loss and one pass deflection.GAME NOTESUT has won four-consecutive MAC openers, including the lastthree under Head Coach Tim Beckman...Toledo finished the gamewith a season-best 11.0 tackles-for-loss, including a game-high 3.5stops by junior DE T.J. Fatinikun...Toledo held a 15-3 lead after thefirst quarter and has now outscored the opposition, 63-23, over thefirst 15 minutes this season...The Rockets limited the high-poweredOwls offense to 13 points, 145 yards rushing and 318 yards of totaloffense.
