His 306 careerreceptions tied the Mid-American Conferencerecord held by Marshall’s JoshDavis and Western Michigan’s JordanWhite, and is 43 shy <strong>of</strong> the NCAA markheld by Robert Broyles <strong>of</strong> Oklahoma.TERRANCE OWENS SHINES ASSTARTING QBJunior QB Terrance Owens had agreat sophomore campaign in 2011.But as a starter in the final three games,Owens really shined.Owens came <strong>of</strong>f the bench in <strong>Toledo</strong>’sfirst 10 games, splitting timeevenly with Austin Dantin. But whenDantin missed the final regular-seasontilts due to injury, Owens stepped upand put up huge numbers. That flurrycontinued in UT’s victory over AirForce in the Military Bowl. In thosethree games, all victories, Owens completeda staggering 79.5 percent (70-<strong>of</strong>-88) <strong>of</strong> his passes for 752 yards, seventouchdowns with no interceptions.Owens made his first start <strong>of</strong> theseason vs. CMU on Nov. 18 and completed24-<strong>of</strong>-32 passes for 275 yardswith two TDs. Owens, who started thefinal four games under center in 2010,equaled his career high in completions,set against CMU last season.Against Ball State on Nov. 25, Owenscompleted his first 14 passes <strong>of</strong> thegame, ending up 27-<strong>of</strong>-32 for 267 yardsand four TDs.And in the Military Bowl vs. AirForce on Dec. 28, Owens connectedon 19-<strong>of</strong>-24 passes for 210 yards, threetouchdowns and no interceptions.OWENS, DANTIN AMONG NA-TION’S MOST ACCURATE PASS-ERSTerrance Owens and Austin Dantinranked fifth and 21st, respectively,in the nation in passing efficiency. <strong>Toledo</strong>is the first football team to havetwo passers in the top 25 in passing efficiencyin the same season. Owens andDantin also ranked first and fourth inthe MAC in passing efficiency.Owens was 166-<strong>of</strong>-230 (72.2%) for2,022 yards and 18 TDs with three interceptionsfor a 169.24 rating. Dantinis 122-<strong>of</strong>-188 (64.9%) for 1404 yardsand 15 TDs and four picks for an efficiencyrating <strong>of</strong> 149.70.FRESHMAN GREG MANCZ EARNSNATIONAL RECOGNITIONRight guard Greg Mancz was named2011 first-team Freshman All-Americaby Yahoo! Sports and third-team FreshmanAll-America by Phil Steele Publications.Mancz was a key part <strong>of</strong> a UT <strong>of</strong>fensethat ranked eighth in nation andfirst in MAC in scoring <strong>of</strong>fense (42.2),and 10th nationally and first in MAC intotal <strong>of</strong>fense (481.3). <strong>Toledo</strong>’s line alsoranked tied for sixth in nation and firstin MAC in fewest sacks allowed (10).
