Chairman Schaffner discussed visits to CMP2 classes throughout the district. She was veryimpressed with what she saw. Some of the teachers had some concerns, for example, the lack oftextbooks for the students to take home and the FCAT gap (difference between the two standards).Chairman Schaffner reinforced that all textbooks identified for the state adoption list from which thedistrict must select are required to be aligned with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards.Lastly, she asked staff to work to reduce the amount of instructional time teachers are losing due toprofessional development.Superintendent Vogel summarized the district’s mission. He also reaffirmed that the NGSSS are inplace and that the district math textbook adoption committee will recommend materials that meet theNext Generation Sunshine State Standards. Member Bauer asked about combining instructionaltechniques as suggested by Kristen Springfield. Dr. Pinnell confirmed that teachers could blendteaching methods.Chairman Schaffner thanked teachers for the work they do and the administration for putting togetherthe information for the work session.
